Frostmourne for all. This must have been the motto in WoW when suddenly the weapon of the Lich King fell from the sky on a realm.
In the history of World of Warcraft, there is hardly a weapon as famous and notorious as Frostmourne. The blade of the Lich King played a pivotal role in Warcraft III, and even during the WoW expansion “Wrath of the Lich King,” it was a central focus of the story.
However, the heroes were never able to truly get their hands on the weapon. It was shattered at the end of WotLK. Some shards later became artifact weapons, while others were locked away.
And then there are the hundreds of copies of Frostmourne that are lying around in Orgrimmar on various realms.
What happened there? On the realm “Arugal” of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, players recently experienced something strange in Orgrimmar. In the large square in front of the auction house, where normally only the corpses of bots pile up, the weapon of the Lich King suddenly rained down from the sky – not just once, but many dozens of times.
The entire ground was covered with Frostmournes, albeit in their partially destroyed variant.
How does that work? How exactly this error occurs is not entirely clear. Some believe it was simply a bug in the game that caused it.
What is clear, however, is that this very incident also occurred back in 2011 during the “Cataclysm” expansion. Back then, the ground was also decorated with nice “ornaments” – which clearly shows that it was obviously created intentionally:
A common theory is that a modified DLL file allowed a player to use the “spell” that summons the broken part of Frostmourne in battle against Arthas in the Icecrown Citadel. In that case, this Frostmourne rain would surely be due to hacking and would sooner or later lead to a hefty account penalty or even a complete account ban.
Have you experienced such a “Frostmourne rain” on your realm as well?
