Valheim offers many ways to express creativity. This also includes repurposing certain items. One of these strange options is mead, which can wonderfully be transformed into its own RGB lighting.
What kind of lighting is that? The mead in Valheim has various effects and strengthens you. However, it also has a special property: it glows. Some resourceful players have taken advantage of this glow.
With mead and object holders, they create stylish lighting that looks like a fancy LED strip under the bed or above their own bar.
How do you build such “LED strips”? There are two ways to create your own RGB lighting in Valheim:
- You build a holder out of beams or a recess in the ground. Just “throw” the mead bottles in there
- Or you use horizontal object stands
The first option is easier, but the downside is that you automatically collect the mead when you come near it next time. So this method is only suitable for hard-to-reach places, and even then, it is quite limited.
It’s easier with holders. However, these cost quite a bit of material, which you probably won’t have in abundance at the beginning. However, the whole thing looks quite elegant, as shown in the post by user westers47 on reddit:

What do I need for that? Since this stylish construct consists of several portions of mead and object stands, you will need resources in large quantities.
For the stands alone, you need bronze nails, for which you will need copper and tin. Both can be found in the dark forest, but copper is extremely tedious to farm. And while you’re farming, you awaken the forest, whose creatures will then attack you repeatedly.
The green bottles, for instance, contain poison-resistance mead, which you obtain from thistles. Thistles can only be found in the dark forest and are rather rare there. For many players, such plants are considered more valuable than metals.
A yellowish mead in similar bottles can be obtained with endurance mead. For that, you need yellow mushrooms and berries. Then you have to ferment the mead, which can take a while.
Is it worth it? Thistles are not only necessary for the mead, but also for sausages, which are among the best food in Valheim if you are still in the “midgame”. Brew the mead for decoration only if you have the plants to spare.
Depending on how far you have progressed or want to progress, you’ll also need the mead for other purposes. Especially poison resistance is almost essential if you want to visit the swamp for the first time.
In the swamp, one of the toughest bosses lurks, Bone Mass, for which you should pack the mead to defeat him. Without the buffs, it will be extremely tricky.
If you don’t want to defeat bosses, Bone Mass is already dust, or if you just want to build, you can use up the thistles.
