The new PS4 game Dreams features a cool toolkit that allows you to create your own levels and entire games. Here are 10 cool examples of player creativity.
What kind of game is this? Dreams is a new game that is currently making waves in the gaming community. Developed by Media Molecule, the studio behind Little Big Planet and Tearaway, it revolves around creating your own games.
You are provided with a toolkit from Dreams, which allows you to build your own characters, levels, and gameplay. The possibilities are virtually endless, and players have already started creating the coolest worlds in Dreams during the early access phase.
Some of these are original creations, while others recreate their favorite games in this platform. We present to you 10 brilliant examples, and some of them you can even play yourself.
Dead Space
The shooter Dead Space was a popular game, praised by both the gaming press and players for its atmosphere and gameplay.
The player Coty-Y managed to recreate a level from the famous horror game in Dreams. In a video, YouTuber Dan Allen shows a lengthy gameplay segment of the game.
You will see that Coty-Y paid attention to all the details in his Dead Space recreation. Notably, the iconic suit of the protagonist Isaac Clarke and the main adversaries of Dead Space: the Necromorphs.
South Park
If you’re not in the mood for a horror trip in Dead Space, then you can visit South Park in Dreams instead. The player Gogoscope has meticulously recreated the town from the long-running cartoon during the early access phase.
While strolling through South Park, you can visit well-known spots such as City Hall, the famous elementary school, and the characters’ houses.
They will also personally cross your path during your trip.
Minecraft
Normally, it’s Minecraft where players create incredible worlds and buildings with building blocks. This includes:
However, Minecraft itself has now been recreated in Dreams. The player Campbell464 released a test level that looks exactly like the popular building game from Mojang.
Development is still in the early stages, but the player plans to recreate the “complete” Minecraft in Dreams in the future. The gameplay plan includes various enemies, crafting, dungeons, and more.
Pilgrim
Among the most popular designs within Dreams is the original creation Pilgrim by the player narvikgutten and his brother Majoneskongen. It has received over 8000 upvotes from the community so far.
The brothers drew inspiration from the popular jump’n’run Super Mario 64. They built a fantastical world and gave their little character cool abilities that you can unlock step by step.
The level is complete and can be played. So if you feel like it, you can find the Dream at this link to indreams.me.
Beyond Nightmare
The atmospheric horror game in Dreams is also an original creation. It comes from the player Porkepik56. In Beyond Nightmare, you initially find yourself in a cafeteria at lunchtime.
The people around you are going about their business when suddenly you hear voices. Severe headaches force you to your knees, and when you open your eyes again, you are completely alone.
If one didn’t know better, one might think that Beyond Nightmare is a small indie game released on the PSN. The atmosphere and cutscenes are impressive for a “toolkit game”.
If you want to try out Beyond Nightmare yourself, you can find it at this link to indreams.me.
Donkey Kong 64
When given the opportunity to let one’s imagination run wild with an elaborate toolkit, many players attempt to recreate the games from their childhood.
The player bossman3009 did just that. He used Dreams to remaster some levels from Donkey Kong 64. In the game, you can run, climb, swim, and do everything else a Donkey Kong can do.
Ghost of Tsushima
This comparison is less about a fan-made level in Dreams. Rather, it illustrates the possibilities that the toolkit of Dreams provides to players.
The video showcases various scenes from the new action-adventure by Sucker Punch. In Ghost of Tsushima, you will play as a samurai fighting against Mongols attacking the island of Tsushima.
The player Thrjoker594 rebuilt the scenes and battles step by step, and the result looks truly impressive alongside the original:
House of Bevis
Another original creation that has gained significant popularity in the Dreams community is House of Bevis by player Bevis2. Unlike other levels, the gameplay in this one is kept to a minimum.
You enter the house and can look around, click on some exhibits, and listen to the audio comments. The game primarily relies on atmosphere and experience.
It’s therefore hard to describe exactly what House of Bevis is. If you want to experience it for yourself, you can do so at this link to indreams.me.
Prometheus
This original creation from Dreams is a first-person shooter from the player Rothniel. You find yourself in a strange eerie world filled with strange buildings and ruins, with stone arms protruding from the ground.
As you explore, you will be attacked by malevolent alien creatures. You have a variety of firearms at your disposal to defend yourself.
Although Prometheus was “only” created with the Dreams toolkit, it feels like a standalone game.
P.T.
The horror game P.T. has a special history. It was an interactive teaser demo for the game Silent Hills, which was later canceled. The demo was later removed by Konami from the store, which drew significant criticism from fans.
P.T. received legendary status due to this and its fantastic atmosphere. The player is trapped in a corridor of a house where haunting occurs. It is impossible to leave the hallway as you are continuously brought back to the start.
The player EpicLBPTime has now recreated the demo in Dreams so that fans of refined horror can experience the eerie feeling of P.T. at least a little.
As you can see, Dreams offers creative minds endless possibilities to express themselves and create vast worlds.
Which of these were your favorites? Will you play these levels in Dreams?
