Dragon Ball receives a Free2Play MMORPG for PC, where you start as a child and become an adult during the game. Dragon Ball Online Zenkai is a fan remake of the discontinued Dragon Ball Online and is expected to include typical MMORPG elements such as quests, dungeons, an open world, and loot. The Open Alpha starts on September 24.
Update September 24: Today at 6:00 PM the open Alpha is set to begin and everyone can participate. However, keep in mind that progress will be reset after the Alpha ends before the official release. You can find more details in the official forum.
This is Dragon Ball Online Zenkai: The MMORPG takes place in the popular Dragon Ball universe of the same-named manga and anime. It does not follow any known story directly and creates its own narrative. This will likely involve time travel and Trunks and intersect various events from the franchise.
The new MMORPG is loosely based on Dragon Ball Online, which officially closed in 2013. The game never reached the West; it was only enjoyed in South Korea, Taiwan, and China. With Dragon Ball Online Global, a fan reboot was already released on a private server, and now a new version is set to follow with Zenkai.
The former Taiwanese top player of Dragon Ball Online, Nady93, has taken it upon himself to revive the game and is working on Dragon Ball Online Zenkai, including his own client. This will enable the team to add further content as desired.
How is the game structured? You choose your character from 3 available classes. Humans, Namekians, and Majins are available. You start in the MMORPG as a child and, like in the old Dragon Ball episodes, you must begin training first.
- Complete quests
- Fight monsters
- Explore the open world on foot or by flying
- Meet familiar characters
- Participate in tournaments or compete against each other in PvP
- Learn skills known from the manga and anime
- Collect gear and weapons for your character
- Overcome dungeons and raids
- Find the 7 Dragon Balls and summon Shenlong
Once you reach level 30, you can choose one of 12 classes, with only 4 classes available per race, thus becoming an adult. The trailer captures the game quite well:
These are the risks: Since this is a fan reboot, there is great concern among fans that the rights holders Akira Toriyama, Bird Studio, or Shueisha Inc. will stop the project.
So far, however, there seem to be no problems, and the team is optimistic. Initial players have already reported that Dragon Ball Online Zenkai is running very well and is playable without issues. An open Alpha is planned for September 24, and everyone can participate via the official site.
