In Pokémon GO, MeinMMO editor Noah Struthoff currently has to battle himself 2500 times. He reveals to you why he has to endure this and how you can avoid it.
This is how I am currently playing Pokémon GO: I have been active in Pokémon GO every day since 2016 and have made significant progress in the race to level 50. I am at level 48 and now need to complete the following tasks:
- Trade 10 Pokémon caught at least 300 kilometers apart
- Obtain 50 lucky Pokémon through trades
- Send 500 gifts to friends
- Earn 35 platinum medals
I have already completed the top three tasks, but I am held back by the platinum medals. The problem: I am still missing 3 medals to reach the goal of 35.
The fastest way to earn platinum medals takes me to the PvP mode. I have completely ignored it so far, and there are 3 medals to be earned in platinum mode. However, I still need to fight about 2500 battles to obtain all 3 medals in platinum.
Hours of battling for 3 medals
This is my current approach: The 2500 battles go quickest when I use my girlfriend’s account and repeatedly beat her little 10 CP Pokémon. The battle of the huge Kyogre against the tiny Jigglypuff may be unequal, but I’m making good progress.
But even such an uneven battle takes several hours when repeated hundreds of times. By now, I spend my evenings just battling. I sit at the table and am basically battling against myself.
Were there no alternatives? I have already gone through medals that can be quickly played in platinum. An alternative would be raids, but I would need to complete about 500 raids in a very short time – that can be quite costly.
While I am close to finishing medals for tiny Rattata or large Magikarp, I also can’t find that many monsters of them in a short time.
The consequence is the endless battling that I am currently going through. It may not be really fun, but the drive to reach the next level is still great and motivates me.
This is how you can prevent it: I currently notice that to reach the maximum level 50, you really have to go through every part of Pokémon GO at least somewhat intensively. I had focused mainly on catching Pokémon and collecting XP. However, that singular focus is now backfiring on me.
If you are not directly on the brink of level 49 yet, you should occasionally also focus on medals that you don’t like so much. So battle in the PvP league or trade Pokémon – at least enough to approximately complete the 35 platinum medals.
Whoever wants to quickly reach level 49 doesn’t have to battle for hours against small Pokémon like I do, but can reach the goal more easily.
Reaching level 50 will reward you with a strong special research. Here are the steps:
