In the US league of League of Legends, the LCS, there is again trouble with Doublelift. The 30-year-old has actually retired as a LoL pro twice already and is now a full-time Twitch streamer. But now the manager of Team Liquid, Dodo, is in trouble because he allegedly sabotaged the comeback of the legendary bot laner.
This is the situation:
- Doublelift has become a champion in the LCS 8 times and is considered one of the most important North American LoL players of all time – but also as the player with the biggest ego and a tendency to label everyone else as “trash.”
- However, Doublelift is now 30 years old and has already ended his LoL career 2 times. In 2020, he retired along with Bjergsen, but then came back. Most recently, Doublelift announced his final farewell from professional LoL in December 2023: It’s over for good. He now wants to get rich on Twitch, marry his girlfriend and have children.
- But just a few months later, there is again major drama surrounding the bot laner.
Doublelift planned return – but only if they also get a wonder kid
What kind of drama was unfolding? Although Doublelift had retired for good, he apparently was secretly planning his comeback for “Team Liquid,” but only under very specific conditions.
Doublelift wanted to play for Team Liquid, but only if they assembled a kind of “super team” with the talented jojopyun (19) in the mid lane.
But Doublelift believes that the manager of Team Liquid, Dodo, leaked the plan because he has a personal problem with Doublelift from their time together at Team Liquid. In 2020, Doublelift announced that he could no longer play well, because he had a motivation problem.
According to Doublelift, Dodo allegedly said: Doublelift would only play for Team Liquid if he were no longer on the team. Dodo reportedly threatened to resign if Doublelift was signed.
This led to jojopysun not moving to Team Liquid, but to Cloud9, and Doublelift’s return plans fell apart.
According to Doublelift, Dodo’s behavior was “sneaky,” but Dodo sent him a letter of apology saying he acted out of the moment.
All of this was recounted by Doublelift during an LCS co-stream on March 8.
What impact does this have on the manager: As Dodo reported on March 10, he woke up the day after Doublelift’s stream to “supportive messages from fans” who sent him death threats and told him to kill himself.
He thanks everyone.
How does the manager describe the situation? According to Dodo, he had been in talks with the desired mid laner jojopyun since September 2023, but he wanted to play with the Cloud9 bot laner Berserker, which is why he also moved to Cloud9.
As Doublelift did not want to join Team Liquid without jojopysun, this fell through. He is disappointed that Doublelift chose to share “misinformation.”
What is the current state of the LCS? Cloud9 is in 3rd place with 8-6, Team Liquid is in 4th place with 7-7. The two leading teams, both with 10-4, are FlyQuest and the 100 Thieves.
In the USA, the playoffs are now starting.
