In Escape from Tarkov one of your main objectives is to collect loot and improve your gear. Generally, this comes with a high risk because you lose all your equipped gear if you die in-game and the potential loot is scarce. But now, suddenly, loot is raining from the sky in Tarkov. What is behind this?
What’s happening currently in Escape from Tarkov? There is currently an increased number of so-called airdrops in Escape from Tarkov (short: EFT). These are supply drops that are dropped by an airplane over the city of Tarkov and contain heaps of loot. This loot can include not only the strongest gear like armors but also weapons and similar items.

Pre-Wipe Event brings Airdrop
What is a Pre-Wipe Event? The airdrops and the associated loot rain are the latest Pre-Wipe Event of the hardcore shooter. These are in-game events that take place shortly before a wipe.
You can recognize an upcoming airdrop by one or – especially during the event – several airplanes in the sky of Tarkov, which drop the loot crates.
Why are there Pre-Wipe Events? In addition to heaps of loot, the current event stimulates the in-game economy and especially the PvP aspect of the shooter.
EFT players currently have to expect that their opponents are lurking near an airdrop, waiting for someone to secure the loot. The greed for loot also leads players to open fire when someone else is also near the coveted crates.
“Ready for the Wipe?”
What is a Wipe? In a wipe, games like Escape from Tarkov reset all player progress and let them start the game anew. The collected gear, completed missions, and the level achieved by a player are gone after a wipe.
The shooter is reset to the state it had when purchased or first started. However, this does not mean only loss. The basic gear of a player, which depends on the purchased EFT version, is fully restored, including weapons, backpacks, armors, ammunition, etc.
When is the next Wipe? Currently, there is no exact date for the upcoming wipe, although it cannot be too far away.
So far, wipes in Escape from Tarkov have taken place approximately every 6 months. The most recent wipe occurred on December 12, 2021, and the previous one on June 30, 2021.
Studio chief and EFT game director Nikita Buyanov also hinted at the next reset recently on Twitter, asking if players are ready for the wipe.
Escape from Tarkov has been an extremely popular shooter for some time and often achieves high viewer numbers on Twitch following a wipe.
The special thing about it is that EFT, due to its hardcore gameplay and associated difficulty, is not suitable for every player and is anything but beginner-friendly.
