How exactly does this weather thing work? In Elden Ring, it can be sunny or rainy in the same location. While all values remain normal during sunshine, the rain affects the resistances of the characters:
- When it rains, the resistances against fire damage are increased
- At the same time, the resistance against lightning damage decreases
Specifically, this means 10% more or less damage. This applies to both the damage you deal and the damage you receive. Therefore, if you want to get the most out of your character, you should always keep an eye on the weather.

Is the weather influence surprising? Not really. Fans of Dark Souls are already familiar with the influence of elements. For example, if you bathe your equipment in water, you gain additional fire resistance and become more susceptible to lightning damage.
Players report on reddit about the boss Glass Knight from Dark Souls 2, who, while having an extremely high lightning resistance, is considered one of the most vulnerable bosses to lightning damage because the fight took place in the rain (via reddit).
What trick should one know with lightning damage? If you perform a lightning effect – whether through spells or a weapon – in water, there is a small AoE effect with additional damage.
The effect radius is not very large and the damage is relatively low, but you can use this trick now and then when encountering multiple enemies at once.
