For the release of Diablo 4, you will be able to play one of 5 classes, each with a unique class mechanic. MeinMMO explains what these mechanics are and how they make the classes special.
Update from March 8: The class mechanic of the Druid is now known. We have added to the article.
What kind of mechanics are these? Diablo 4 apparently wants to give the 5 classes at release more identity. Instead of just focusing on ranged combat, melee combat, or magic, each class can refine itself further with a mechanic.
These mechanics have already been introduced by Blizzard in interviews. Generally speaking, each class has the opportunity to personalize its own playstyle, so even two Sorceresses or Necromancers can play differently.
Unlike spells or effects that are on equipment, the corresponding mechanics are exclusively available to the respective class. In our guide, we explain each of the unique class mechanics and briefly outline what each class can do.
Note that Diablo 4 is still in development and some information has not yet been confirmed. As soon as new information is confirmed, we will keep you updated.
Diablo 4 aims to take the best features from its predecessors and expand them with new features like class mechanics. In the video, we explain details about the game:
The class mechanic of the Barbarian
What can Barbarians do?
- Focus on powerful attacks with various weapons
- Use the power of the ancients to become stronger
- Can control opponents with jump attacks, earthquakes, and charge attacks
The special mechanic of the Barbarian: Barbarians use an “arsenal” of weapons. Unlike any other class, Barbarians can carry up to four weapons simultaneously and require different weapon types to use specific skills. If a skill requires a specific weapon type, the Barbarian automatically switches to the corresponding slot.
The class mechanic of the Druid
What can Druids do?
- Use nature magic to control or kill enemies
- Empower themselves and others with their magic
- Transform into different animal forms for special attacks
The special mechanic of the Druid: As a Druid, you visit the area of Scosglen and can offer sacrifices to various gods, which you receive from enemies beforehand. In return, you receive blessings from the gods with permanent enhancements, up to a total of 5. However, you can also switch them.
The class mechanic of the Sorceress
What can Sorceresses do?
- Use the elements to weave spells
- Summon lightning, meteors, and ice storms to annihilate whole hordes of enemies
- Protect themselves with magical armors and effects
The special mechanic of the Sorceress: Sorceresses can essentially create their own spells. They have additional spell slots into which they can place abilities. These additional abilities then grant passive effects to the equipped spells and can even change their functionality.

The class mechanic of the Huntress
What can Huntresses do?
- Use bows, daggers, and traps
- Focus on speed and agility
- Fight from a distance or use shadow abilities to massacre opponents
The special mechanic of the Huntress: Huntresses can specialize in one of three areas. To activate, a quest must be completed beforehand:
- Combo Points: Attacks now build combo points that are consumed by certain, powerful abilities for additional effects.
- Inner Sight: Attacks against marked enemies increase a meter for Inner Sight. When this is filled, you gain unlimited energy for a short time.
- Preparation: Effects currently unknown.
In earlier iterations, the specializations were combo points, finding weakness, and realm of shadows with other effects. The mechanic may change again before the release.

The class mechanic of the Necromancer
What can Necromancers do?
- Summon the dead in the form of skeleton armies and flesh golems
- Use corpses and bones as weapons or armor
- Curse their enemies
The special mechanic of the Necromancer: Necromancers have access to the “Book of the Dead.” With this, you can change how your spells work and how your undead servants behave. You decide whether you want to have melee fighters or mages, individual powerful servants, or whole armies of the undead.

The classes of Diablo 4 receive new tools with their mechanics that shape them more strongly than in any previous Diablo. Additionally, there are ultimate abilities that are supposed to give you the absolute feeling of power while playing.
You can switch your talent points at any time, but against increasing gold costs, so at some point it’s better to start a new character if you want to try a new build.
