What about the Hooks? The Monetization
The game sounds almost too good to be true so far, which is why I have to address at least one hair in the soup. Currently, the best character in the game is Garo
– but he is only available to battle pass buyers.
I see the monetization here similar to what we knew from MOBAs in the 2010s: A new hero comes into the game, is completely OP for one to three weeks, everyone plays and buys him, he gets nerfed, and in a few weeks the same thing happens with the next hero. Whether that will also happen in HoKW remains to be seen due to the young release.
At least you can purchase all other currently available heroes and their associated classes for real money or earn them over time. How the developers will handle the next champions is unclear. However, it seems likely that they will also be available through the battle pass in the then-current version. Whether these premium characters can eventually be earned is something that time will tell.
I have been doing wonderfully with the free available fighters so far. However, the future outlook for ambitious players might look different, although I cannot currently assess that accurately.

Conclusion: Is This Still for Real MMORPG Fans?
If you are looking for that classic We stand with 40 people before the raid boss
feeling or love competing for spawns in overcrowded starting areas, you will probably be disappointed with Honor of Kings: World. The game simply lacks the massively
in the multiplayer, as mentioned at the beginning. If you seek hardcore PvE grinds and deep raids, you might want to wait for other titles.
However, if you are willing to accept that the genre is changing noticeably and are eager for what is likely to be an excellent action RPG with strong optional multiplayer elements, you will have a great time here. The unique hero combo combat system is incredibly fun, the world is an absolute feast for the eyes, and the avoidance of unfair gear grinding is a real blessing.
To me, Honor of Kings: World is an absolute surprise hit – even if I first had to throw away my own expectations for the term MMORPG
. What else you need to know about Honor of Kings: World, you can find here: The biggest new online role-playing game is not actually an MMO, think of a Steam hit from 2025
