In the Steam game “Dinkum”, you build a new life on an island. The game is already very popular among players in Early Access.
Dinkum is a life and building simulator that places you in an area reminiscent of Australia. On an island, you start a new beginning, get to know the residents, and build your own home as well as an entire town.
The game is currently still in Early Access and is expected to maintain this status for at least another year.
Dinkum is created by a single developer named James Bendon. He has already worked on the game for 3 years before it was released in Early Access. On Steam, he writes: Although the game is already very playable, the developer wants to add some elements until it feels “complete.”
The game is playable on the Steam Deck, but requires some extra effort in terms of interaction or configuration.
What does the gameplay look like? Once you arrive on the island of Dinkum, you build a shelter that you gradually expand into a substantial farm. You can grow crops, keep livestock such as chickens, sheep, or cows, or even adopt a giant wombat as a pet.
In the process, you expand the place from a single tent to an entire town. Complete quests for visitors to the island so that they will stay. The happier the people are, the more your town will grow. With new people, more shops will also be added where you can buy specific goods such as tools or clothing.
Explore your surroundings and gather resources: go fishing or catch insects to expand the museum collection, procure food, or earn some pocket money.
But also be aware of the dangers of nature. Predators like crocodiles can attack you. However, you are not defenseless. You can attack animals with a spear or trap them with your traps.
