Just Die Already is a new survival game released on Steam that has a really twisted approach. You play as a senior citizen in a world where everyone wants to see you dead – and decide to just make the best of it. Even if you end up dying.
What kind of game is this? In Just Die Already, you play as an old, frail person. Alone or with up to four players in co-op, you wander through the world, breaking your already decrepit bones or… dying bizarre deaths.
If you stumble or fall, you can break everything – with a bit of bad luck, your head might even explode. Stairs, jetpacks, and NPCs who like to beat you up are your enemies… or tools, depending on how you use them.
In co-op, you can also hinder each other, shove into power lines, or otherwise send each other to the afterlife. If peaceful cooperation doesn’t quite suit your taste.
But why? The survival game takes place in a world where millennials have no desire to have children anymore. So no one is paying for your retirement, and you’re kicked out of the nursing home. Like almost all other retirees, your goal is to survive.
At least more or less, because the premise is: If everyone already wants to see you dead, you might as well have a blast. However, you also collect points and look for retirement tickets to possibly get back into a home and relax.
Just Die Already has been available on Steam since May 20 and costs €13.99 there. Until May 25, it is still reduced by 20%.
PvP starting in June – Initial feedback “balanced”
These are the first impressions: Currently, Just Die Already has a “balanced” rating on Steam with 68% positive votes (as of May 20 at 8:00 PM).
Many players positively highlight that the game is just completely outrageous. If you enjoy nonsense, crazy stunts, and ridiculous deaths, then this is apparently just the right place – especially with friends. With the right group, the chaos is supposed to become perfect.
However, negative reviews criticize that apart from quirky situations, not much happens. Solo, the game quickly becomes quite boring, and there is too little to discover.
So far, there have only been 25 votes for Just Die Already. Therefore, the ratings are currently just a very rough overview, and a proper assessment can only be made at a later point in time.
Here’s what’s next for Just Die Already: The developers have already announced that a free PvP update will be released in June. After that, you should be able to battle it out with other players in four arenas – after all, only the strongest “old geezer” gets a place in the home.
