A new Gothic role-playing game on Steam combines turn-based combat with a narrative system reminiscent of Disco Elysium – and it will be released in just a few weeks.
Which game is being referred to? It is the new role-playing game “The Necromancer’s Tale” from Psychic Software, which was part of the Steam Next Fest. It is a dark fantasy role-playing game that picks up themes in the style of Lovecraftian horror, including necromancy, the insatiable desire for macabre knowledge, and the slow descent into madness.
It will be released on July 17, 2025, on Steam, where a demo is already available if you are curious. Currently, it is only available in English, but the developers intend to keep an eye on the wishlist language areas to translate the game into multiple languages in the future where there is demand.

What does the gameplay look like? In the top-down RPG, players take on the role of a low-ranking noble in the 18th century, studying dark arts and necromantic rituals, thus becoming more powerful. Players can perform these rituals to create their own army of the undead, which they can control as a supporting force in turn-based combat. Various enemies encountered in the game can be paranormal or of natural origin.
Another important aspect of the gameplay, aside from tactical combat, is the interaction with over 150 characters that players can meet in the game. These characters are crucial for the course of your story.
What role do the inhabitants play? The Necromancer’s Tale features a “Trust System” that ensures all decisions truly matter. Players can negotiate, flatter, and blackmail – all to achieve their goals.
It is important to note that supernatural rituals may provoke different reactions in a society where superstition conflicts with rational thinking.

The Necromancer’s Tale is still available as a demo on Steam as of July 2, 2025, through which you can test the dark role-playing game for free.
