The MMORPG Ragnarok Online was released in 2004 in Europe and was the entry point into the genre for some players. For 2021, developer Gravity announced 3 new games for the franchise. Among them is a new PC MMORPG.
What was announced? As part of a business event, developer Gravity gave an insight into the plans for 2021. And they are very interesting for fans of the Ragnarok series:
- With Ragnarok Begins, a completely new PC MMORPG is coming. The release is planned for the second half of 2021.
- The Lost Memories: A Song of Valkyrie will be a new mobile MMORPG that is supposed to evoke the retro style of the first part. A demo was already showcased at G-Star 2019 (via YouTube).
- With Project S, another mobile game is coming to Ragnarok. This is an MMORPG developed in the Unity engine. There are no precise details yet.
In addition, the service of some already released games for Ragnarok is being expanded, including the new Ragnarok X: Next Generation, which will be playable in Southeast Asia from June. The only global release this year occurred in March with the game The Labyrinth of Ragnarok.
Ragnarok Begins will be a new PC MMORPG, set before Ragnarok Online
What is Ragnarok Begins? This game is a side-scroller MMORPG. You move mainly left and right only with your character.
The story takes place 100 years before Ragnarok Online. It focuses on the conflict between the kingdom of Rune Midgard and the church of Arunafelz.
You have access to 4 classes, each of which can develop in two directions:
- Swordman: Warrior, Defender
- Archer: Hunter, Ranger
- Mage: Elementalist, Summoner
- Acolyte: Saint, Inquisitor

Why is the game so interesting? Ragnarok Online was an MMORPG that some players grew up with in the West and still generates significant interest today.
Again and again, there is a longing for a new version of the game, especially since the original was discontinued in Europe in 2018 for data protection reasons and Ragnarok 2 could not establish itself.
Since then, there have mostly been mobile games in the Ragnarok series. However, to play the new MMORPG, an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM are recommended by the Korean developer. A smartphone version is not planned.
When will Ragnarok Begins come to us? When and whether the MMORPG will even be released here is still unclear. The release in the second half of 2021 mostly targets Korea.
However, Gravity stated in their plans for 2021 that other countries are being targeted for their Ragnarok games. This increases the chances that Ragnarok Begins will also come to us. The last Ragnarok game that was released here was Ragnarok M: Eternal Love in November 2018.
