The manga and anime for Fairy Tail are often compared to One Piece. The story about Natsu and his friends actually concluded as a manga in 2017. But now, the story is set to receive a short continuation. Additionally, there will be a new anime for Fairy Tail.
What new developments can fans look forward to? The team behind Fairy Tail has two pieces of positive news that fans of the franchise can be excited about (via X):
- The manga artist of Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima, will expand the story with an additional chapter. Although the official manga concluded in 2017, Mashima has decided to release a one-shot on July 3, 2024.
- Since 2018, there has been a sequel to Fairy Tail called Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. The sequel was only available as a manga until now. However, this summer, the anime adaptation is finally set to follow. The TV premiere in Japan is on July 7. In the manga, Mashima is only responsible for the story, while the drawings are done by Atsuo Ueda.
- On the other hand, there is some sad news: The manga for Edens Zero, which does not take place in a fantasy setting but rather in a sci-fi setting, will end on June 26. Mashima is personally responsible for this manga.
Unfortunately, it is not known how many pages the one-shot will have and what fans can expect from the content. However, we know exactly how Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest will continue. There is a manga template that the anime will most likely follow.

What’s Next for Fairy Tail
What happens in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest? The anime for the sequel takes place a year after the downfall of Zeref and Acnologia. Natsu and the Fairy Tail guild travel to the northern continent of Guiltina to complete a special quest.
The eponymous 100 Years Quest is a mission that has been unfinished for over a century. In this task, the five Dragon Gods must be sealed, as they could destroy the world. Natsu and his team accept the challenge and try to finally complete the quest after more than 100 years.
Why are Fairy Tail and One Piece so similar? Many fans compare One Piece with Fairy Tail, which is why there is a significant overlap between the fan communities. Both are shonen mangas that share a similar premise.
The respective main character goes on an epic journey in both mangas, with a destination located in some unknown land. Along the way, they gather numerous friends who possess various character traits.
In One Piece, it’s pirate crews dominating the world. In Fairy Tail, it’s wizards who hold great significance. Some of the devil powers are comparable to wizard abilities. The art style and humor are also similar in both stories.
A persistent rumor in the community suggests that Mashima was an assistant to One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, thus explaining the similarities. However, this rumor is not true.
