What is taming good for? In the world of Pywel, you can befriend cats and dogs to bring them as pets by your side. This is not only cute but also gives you a significant advantage: The animals collect loot for you.
As one can easily overlook valuable loot in Crimson Desert (despite the marking on the minimap), this is a great help – even if they sometimes bring in junk. However, if you throw it away immediately, the animals will leave it behind. Once found by your animal, the respective item goes directly to your inventory.

How to tame pets in Crimson Desert
How can you tame the animals? If you encounter an animal of your choice, you can do the following:
- Pet it → + 5 affection (5 times a day)
- Feed it with meat → + 10 affection (3 times a day)
At first, it does not matter which meat you use – only fish is not liked by the animals we have tested with so far. However, whether you use tough or lean meat made no difference in our tests. So just pick a type of meat from your inventory and choose “Throw Away” near the animal.
It makes sense to focus on one type of meat to avoid cluttering your inventory.
You need to reach 100 affection points by petting and feeding. For most animals, you need at least 2 days to make them your pets.
Once you reach 100 affection points, you can register and summon the animal as a pet so that it accompanies you on your journey and collects loot. If it gets on your nerves, you can send it away anytime or swap it for another registered companion.
How many pets can you register? You can currently register up to 30 pets and switch between them. However, you can only summon one companion at a time.
What happens if you unbind a pet? If you want to make space, you must remove your bond with the animal through the “Unbind” function in the pet overview. Unfortunately, it was observed in the review version that the animal then also disappears for the time being.
So choose this option wisely. Although the animals reappear after a while at the place where you tamed them, it takes time, so you cannot tame them again immediately if you accidentally released them.
Can you name the animals? Unfortunately not. At least, this was not possible in the review version.
Crimson Desert is a game that does not exactly hold your hand. Much is explained little or not at all. While this encourages experimenting and puzzling, it can also quickly lead to frustration.
