Ich war perfekt auf die neue Saison von Pokémon Legenden Z-A vorbereitet, doch nach 15 Minuten war alles vorbei

In Pokémon Legends Z-A the new ranking season has started, and MeinMMO editor Niko has prepared perfectly for it. But after less than 15 minutes, he was quite disappointed.

What does perfectly prepared mean? Surprisingly, I had quite a lot of fun in the ranking mode in Pokémon Legends Z-A. With my Stalobor, I was able to obtain the Mega Stone of Quajutsu in just one evening. For Season 2 and the Mega Stone of Fennexis, I wanted to try something different.

Instead of relying on a Mega Evolution, my girlfriend kindly built me a perfect Glaziola, the subjectively best Eevee evolution. Glaziola has a strong special attack value, and both defense and special defense are solid, making it a good Ice Pokémon choice, especially when you want to defeat the many Dragon Pokémon.

So she built me a perfect Glaziola:

You can find the Ruler Glaziola in Wild Sector 20.
Using a mint changes the nature to Modest (can be bought in the building courtyard, left next to Wild Sector 3).
In the Corrosio clan, you reset the EVs and redistribute them using items.
For a Glaziola that is to function as a special attacker, you must give it the following:
- 26 Carbon for speed (256 EVs)
- 26 Calcium for special attack (256 EVs)
- Thanks to Zinc, an additional 4 EVs in special defense
- You can find the items in the game, or you can buy them in the Pokémon Center
During the Super Special Training, you will also need to maximize the IV values. You can view them for each Pokémon when you go to report on the values. It shows you how high the IVs are for the different values.
You will need bottle caps for that. With a silver bottle cap, you can increase one IV value to the maximum (Maximized), and with a gold bottle cap, even all of them.
Of course, for the perfect Glaziola, you want to increase all of them.

Then there were the attacks, and there are various options. For my Glaziola, the attack set looked like this:

Freeze-Dry as the main attack (AOE attack, but you have to be closer and it’s very effective against Water Pokémon (Impergator, Garados))
Snowstorm to finish off opponents (hits opponents from a longer distance)
Shadow Ball (good against Ghost and Psychic Pokémon (Metagross, Gardevoir))
4. Options: Calm Mind, Quick Attack, Ice Beam, Roar

So the perfect Glaziola was ready and I was prepared to unlock the new stone without Mega Evolutions and also to fight against the many Dragon Pokémon like Dragoran or Knakrack. But after just 15 minutes, the goal was achieved, for which you actually don’t have to put in much effort.

After 3 matches, there was already Mega Fennexis

How did the matches go? Although the Glaziola was quite strong, there were more problems than with Stalobor, especially because many players bring a Charizard. So you should have a Pokémon with Rock attacks with you. Also, don’t forget to boost your attacks with the plus button.

After only 3 matches, I reached Rank S and unlocked the Mega Stone of Fennexis.

Honestly: That was disappointing. Sure, for players who just want the stone, it is beneficial, but it doesn’t encourage trainers to experiment with different combinations or Pokémon. You can also just afk spam a few attacks with any Pokémon, and since you usually come out with a plus anyway, even when you lose, the ranking mode is quite irrelevant. The different ranks do not necessarily show who played best, but just who played the most.

In the higher ranks, there are rewards as well, such as bottle caps, but why would you use them to build good Pokémon when it doesn’t matter for reaching the ranks?

And on the other side: Are you forcing players who want all the stones to sign up for a subscription just to get everything online after 3 matches? If you already need a subscription, the developers should create incentives to engage longer with the mode.

But still, the mode is still fun because my Glaziola showed me that you don’t necessarily need a Mega Evolution to rack up victories in the rankings. I will probably continue to try new combinations and Pokémon, but the game must definitely introduce new rewards, otherwise, the mode will eventually become really boring.
