After the first weekend with the new DLC for Elden Ring, the big topic is the difficulty. Many players find the DLC way too difficult. However, an old-school player advises you to make use of a feature that many neglected in the main game.
What is it about? For many players, the DLC Shadows of the Erdtree is currently a challenging endeavor. Despite high levels, many players are struggling to progress. Hidetaka Miyazaki already responded to this and said that is exactly the point of the difficulty.
On Reddit, a user now gives other players the tip to use a neglected feature, as the game is designed for it. This concerns the ashes that give you allies. The most famous of them is the Mimic Tear.
The ashes and many weapons already caused some discussions in the main game, as many players neglected opportunities to significantly ease the game. Back then, some even cried out for nerfs: Elden Ring – players discuss the balancing.
You can catch a glimpse of the DLC for Elden Ring in this trailer:
They are no longer optional
In the Reddit thread, the user TheHessianHussar talks about how he, as an old-school Souls gamer
, ignored summons in the main game to get the real
experience. But he now recognizes that spirit summons are no longer optional
.
He describes how he has tried 64 times to defeat his second DLC boss and couldn’t even get him below a third of his health. After that, he threw his pride out the window
and used the Mimic Tear. With that, he defeated the boss after the second attempt.
In the end, he recommends people simply use the ashes; one can take the ethical route
in the second playthrough.
Under the thread, countless comments accumulate; for example, it is mentioned how complaints about the bosses from the main game were also voiced when a new player asks about them.
- JetPackM:
Yes, we had Margit […] “Pre-Patch” Radahn (he just had janky hitboxes that needed fixing), and summons were worse than murder… Wait, people still think that…
- mixx414:
I always find it so lame when people gossip about others using summons. And yes, I think that’s just as lame as this. Insisting that summons are no longer optional.
- whatistheancient:
They are definitely still optional. It depends on how much you want to practice the boss.
The post is filled with people preaching that you should just play the game however you want. What about you? Do you use everything the game offers, or do you set limitations for yourself? Let us know in the comments. Before the DLC, the most difficult boss was probably Malenia. The DLC shouldn’t actually be harder, but MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos takes away your hope: The bosses in the Elden Ring DLC should not be harder than in the main game – but that was a bold-faced lie.
