Do the Joy-Cons of the Nintendo Switch slip out of your fingers during heated battles? But you also don’t want to buy an expensive Pro Controller? MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann has found a small, affordable solution.
What is the problem? I’m in the middle of a heated battle and I just need to land one hit on the opponent. But exactly then, my Joy-Cons slip out of my fingers. When I’m under stress, my fingers get damp and sweaty.
An alternative would be to buy a Pro Controller. There are now many versions of it, but they can be really expensive. However, there are also some manufacturers that sell so-called “Thumb-Grips”. These are caps that you attach to the thumbsticks of your Joy-Cons.
But is the money really worth it for such “caps”? After all, you only pay an average of 10 euros for such caps for the thumbsticks. I tried it out and was positively surprised. In my article, I explain why such parts might be worth it for you too if you are looking for an upgrade for your Switch.
Thumb-Grips cost less than 10 euros
These Thumb-Grips cost on average 5 to 10 euros and are available in various styles. I immediately ordered two sets because these things look kind of nice.
The biggest disadvantage first: It’s incredibly fiddly to attach the caps to the Joy-Cons. Once you’ve gotten them on one side, they slip off the other side again. I cursed loudly more than once during assembly when the pieces flew off again. But somehow they fit in the end and sit really tight.
What does it bring in practice? The small caps not only look stylish but also give the Joy-Cons significantly more grip. I still have damp fingers, but while gaming, I now have a much better grip on the thumbsticks. For my large hands, the Joy-Cons with these attachments are much easier to hold.
Moreover, these parts really look nice, even though that – like RGB lighting – isn’t really game-changing.
