A new trailer for the RPG Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy presents Epione Spes – a surgeon who accompanies you on your journeys. On paper, she is a healer, but you should still be cautious of doctors in the grim future.
Who is the new companion? Once, Epione Spes was part of the Officio Medicae. This organization is responsible for the medical care of the imperial forces and fights against plagues in the ranks of soldiers or makes the wounded fit for service.
As the daughter of a noble family, she belonged to the highest echelons of the Officio Medicae. However, for (currently unexplained) reasons, she lost her family and her status. Nevertheless, this did not stop her from honing her skills in medicine and surgery.
Eventually, the Inquisition took notice of Epione Spes. Impressed by her talent, this dangerous organization of the Empire made her an acolyte.
Warhammer 40,000 turns even doctor visits into horror trips
Why shouldn’t you let her treat you? The doctors of the Empire in Warhammer 40,000 are not necessarily looking out for their patients’ well-being. What matters to them is that they can return to their duties as quickly as possible – and at any cost. With her claw glove, Spes also does not seem trustworthy, but rather like a slasher villain.
A comment on the trailer on YouTube nicely summarizes the attitude of surgeons in Warhammer 40,000: “I’m a healer, but…”. This is reflected in the companion’s gameplay, as she can not only heal damage but also deal it out in painful ways.
Spes primarily acts as a field medic: She helps your squad stay on their feet during fights. For this, she uses specially crafted mixtures. However, she not only provides support but also eliminates enemies herself with a sharp scalpel – or incinerates them with a flamethrower.
Epione Spes is one of five companions who have already been announced for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. In a previous trailer, “Conscript 0-118-B” was in the spotlight – not the brightest servant of the Empire, but one of the most loyal.
