The PS5 launch is approaching, and many are asking themselves which title to start with in the next-gen. The shooter expert from MeinMMO, Sven Galitzki, knows exactly what he will play first on the PlayStation 5 – which is not a shooter. And you?
When does the PS5 launch? The launch of the PlayStation 5 is less than two months away.
Here in Germany (and generally in Europe), the PS5 will be officially available from November 19. In the USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and some other countries, Sony’s next-gen console will launch a week earlier, on November 12.
Numerous players have already secured a PS5 directly at launch through 2 pre-order waves. Others are still waiting and haven’t completely given up hope for a possible 3rd wave before the release.
However, for many, one of the most important questions is: What to play at launch?
Which games are available for the PS5 launch? So far, the list of PS5 launch titles is quite manageable. Some highlights, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Godfall, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, or the remake of Demon’s Souls, will be available right at the launch of the PS5, but many exciting games will come only some time after the launch, partly not until 2021.
But these are not the only games you can play at launch. Through the backward compatibility feature of the PS5, you will also be able to play a variety of old and new PS4 games. Additionally, some games will receive a next-gen upgrade right at the start of the new Sony console, allowing them to benefit from the additional power of the PS5. More details can be found here: Old PS4 games on the PS5 – Will they all look better?
By the way: PS5 owners with an active PS Plus subscription will receive 18 PS4 games at no additional cost with the PS Plus Collection, right at the launch of the PlayStation 5. More about it can be found here: PlayStation Plus for PS5: These 18 games are free at launch
There’s definitely a lot to start with right at launch.
No Destiny and not Call of Duty – This will be my first game on the PS5
This is what I will play at launch: Even though many of my friends and gaming buddies already have their favorites among the launch titles, I don’t feel there’s anything for me in that list.
I’m actually mostly looking forward to some old PS4 favorites in a fresh coat, like Destiny 2 – with one exception. However, the game with which I will start the new console era essentially comes from the PS4 – namely Cyberpunk 2077.
This will celebrate its release on November 19 – which is basically at the same time as the PS5 in Germany – but it is not a next-gen title per se. Because on October 19, Cyberpunk will only be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be playable on the next-gen consoles through backward compatibility and will even receive its first next-gen upgrade. However, the real PS5 version (and also that for the Xbox Series X) is not expected to follow until sometime in 2021.
Why Cyberpunk of all games? I am primarily a shooter lover and prefer to play Destiny 2. But occasionally, I can also get excited about role-playing games – preferably in single-player mode. My absolute favorites include The Witcher 3 and the Mass Effect series, which is apparently getting a remaster soon.
However strong I found The Witcher 3 – I am more into sci-fi, particularly the dystopian sub-genre cyberpunk. And long before the release of The Witcher 3, I always dreamed of finally experiencing an AAA role-playing game with a futuristic setting centered around cyberpunk. Mass Effect already partially fulfilled that (for the sci-fi), and I found these games all great.
But essentially, I have always wished for a kind of “Ghost in The Shell” as an RPG – similarly epic in execution as The Witcher 3. I still love Cyberpunk 2020 as a pen & paper, I love the style and ideas behind cyberpunk. And the setting of the upcoming game from CD Projekt RED, the creators of The Witcher, fits like a glove. When I first read about Cyberpunk 2077 and saw the first trailer, it was clear to me – this will be my game. 100% what I have always wished for. And the more I learned about Cyberpunk 2077, the more my opinion was reaffirmed.
