In Hytale there is a lot to discover and try out. MeinMMO gives you tips for a relaxed start in the game.
Hytale gives you, at the start, similar to Minecraft, no great orientation options and you are left to your own devices from the very beginning. The game wants to be explored entirely by you, which can be a bit overwhelming at the start.
We have put together 7 tips that will help you keep track of the game and ensure a relaxed entry into the game. If you want to skim the list, you can also use our directory:
Go to the Forgotten Temple first to unlock memories
One of the first things you should do in Hytale, after you have, of course, crafted a standard equipment, is to visit the Forgotten Temple. You can reach it by going through the portal. It is marked on your map from the very beginning with a symbol.
Don’t worry if you are not ready for a fight against the stone troll that lurks before the portal: You can simply run around it and jump into the portal.
Here you will find a well from which you will have the opportunity to collect entries about creatures as you approach. You just have to get close to them, and a blue light will come towards you to unlock the entry.
The more memories you unlock, the more rewards you receive:
- 10x memories: 3x Decorative Chests and 2x Eternal Seeds
- 25x memories: 3x Decorative Chests, 4x Eternal Seeds, and +1 Teleporter
- 50x memories: Morph Potions, 4x Eternal Seeds, and +1 Teleporter
- 100x memories: Ancient Gateway, Portal Fragments, Backpack Upgrade 2, 3x Decorative Chests, 2x Eternal Seeds, and +2 Teleporters
- 200x memories: Harvest Trophy, 2x Decorative Chests, 2x Eternal Seeds, and +2 Teleporters
Running faster with daggers and swords
In Hytale, you have to cover long distances in order to explore the huge map. While you can sprint pretty fast, using daggers or the sword makes it even faster.
To do this, simply hold down the right mouse button, and you perform an attack that propels you forward well.
Health bars for enemies and other creatures
When encountering a strong enemy in Hytale for the first time, you quickly wonder in battle how much it can withstand. To find out, you can enable the health bar of enemies in the settings:
- Settings -> General -> Show Entity Health Bars “ON”
Food gives you health and buffs
Although you don’t have a hunger display in Hytale, your health bar fills up once you eat something. You heal a piece of your health bar immediately, but you also activate the steady passive regeneration – at least for a while.
Different foods, however, have other additional effects. These can vary completely depending on the dishes and their preparation. It even makes a difference whether you prepare a food at the campfire or at a cooking station.

Blocking attacks is not just possible with a shield
In Hytale, you cannot dodge in battle unfortunately. But to be able to protect yourself from enemy attacks, you can build a shield.
However, if you don’t have the materials for that yet, you can block with your weapon. If you attack simultaneously while blocking, you parry attacks and can strike back at the same time. This naturally consumes stamina.
Ovens and campfires have a queue
If you are busy somewhere else for a longer time and want to smelt your ores in the oven meanwhile, you can use the “queue” in the oven. The oven allows you to throw up to two ores into it at the same time.
Permanent light with the left hand
If you want to save resources for torches, you can simply use your left hand. When you are in your inventory, you can just place a torch in your left hand, allowing it to provide you with permanent light. This is great for cave exploration when you don’t want to place torches everywhere but still want to see something.
More tips at a glance
- Unlock all workbenches as soon as possible so that you have an overview of all craftable items.
- When crafting at workbenches, you access the contents of the chests, so you don’t have to have the necessary items in your inventory.
- Destroy the bottom side of a tree to dismantle the entire tree instantly.
