A hunter in WoW Classic HC recently had to say goodbye to his character. Because a mechanic that has supposedly been fixed for a long time killed him. We show you the story.
In which WoW did this happen? The hunter player lost his character in WoW Classic. More specifically, in the Hardcore mode of WoW Classic. The HC variant started a few days ago and means: those who die lose their character and all their earned progress.
That’s pretty bitter when you face too many enemies at a higher level and then die. It’s also unfair when a peaceful mechanic suddenly ends up being deadly.
Whoever stays dead too long dies
How did he die? The ability “Feign Death” belongs to the hunter class in WoW. When used, the hero falls to the ground and pretends to be dead. He stays there for as long as the player keeps the ability active, but no longer than 6 minutes. Usually, players only use it for a few seconds and then cancel the feint to hop around lively again. This way, they easily escape stronger monsters.
If someone uses the full 6 minutes, he has to live with the consequences in WoW Classic, which have long since been removed in the retail version of the game.
The player walldewd felt the consequences because he wanted to get tea. He parked his character in front of the auction house in Stormwind and activated the feign death ability for reasons unknown. He then left the PC to make tea. When he looked back at the screen, he saw that his character had died. He writes: “If you feign death for the full 6 minutes, you apparently actually get killed. I just died in the stupidest way at level 31. Unbelievable”
Why do you die when feigning death? In the early days of World of Warcraft, this function was also in the game. But apparently that was not intended by Blizzard, because in 2007, shortly before the release of Burning Crusade, they removed the mechanic (via PCGamer.com). In the retail version of the game, you can use the full time of feign death and remain alive. According to the current patch status of WoW Classic Hardcore, the problem has apparently not yet been resolved.
On Reddit, some players joke about it and post memes. Phrases like “Fake it until you make it” or “Well, you try holding your breath for 5 minutes” are among the most upvoted.
