What is The Hunt for Gollum? The upcoming fantasy film refers to the original film trilogy by Peter Jackson and takes place before The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and thus before Frodo’s journey.

Therefore, Aragorn is tasked by Gandalf to find Gollum so that he does not reveal to Sauron where he is. Gollum himself is on the way to regain the ring.
