Winning duels in Red Dead Redemption 2 is easy. At least, if you know how to do it. In this article, we will show you tips on how to win duels more easily.
From time to time in Red Dead Redemption 2, you will face duels. It is crucial that you draw your Colt and shoot before your opponent has a chance to.
With the tips from this article, dueling should be significantly easier for you.
Don’t rush, approach the duel calmly
While you are under some pressure in a duel situation, it should not overwhelm you. The duel is roughly divided into 2 phases:
- The preparation
- The shooting
If the preparation goes well, you will have more time to shoot. You can aim more precisely and consider whether you want to kill your opponent or just incapacitate him.
Which weapons are allowed? In duels, only revolvers or pistols count. You cannot use other weapons.
Charge slowly, more time to aim
In the first phase of a duel, you should draw your weapon. The game indicates that this should happen slowly.
To assist you, you will see a round indicator filling up in the bottom right corner. So press RT/R2 gently, not all the way down at once. However, you also need to be careful not to press the button too lightly. The indicator must fill up. A tricky mechanic that requires some practice and finesse.
How hard should you press the button? Players report that pressing about half down works very well and allows the indicator to charge significantly.
Why should you fill the indicator as much as possible? The more filled the indicator is, the better your aiming will be. You will have more time to aim.
Where to aim in a duel?
Once you have filled the indicator enough, it’s time to aim with Dead Eye. Now press the RT/R2 button all the way down. You will then draw your weapon and differentiate between 2 situations:
- Do you want to kill the opponent?
- Do you just want to incapacitate the opponent?
- If you do not kill an opponent in a duel, it earns you honor.
The opponent should die: Then aim for the most vulnerable parts of the body. Head or chest are popular targets for cowboys.
The opponent should survive: In some situations, it is important that the target survives. Shoot at their hand so that they drop the weapon. But be careful: Some encounters are scripted in such a way that the opponent will simply pull out a second revolver and shoot with that.
Shooting in a duel
If you are satisfied with your aim on your opponent, you just need to pull the trigger. This time, you should press RT/R2 all the way down. Not just halfway, as in the first phase.
Improve Dead Eye
Your progress in Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2 is also noticeable in duels. At first, time only slows down when you activate Dead Eye. Later, the feature shows you weaknesses of your opponents. This way, you can make more lethal hits.
If your Dead Eye is leveled up, you have better chances of winning duels. This is how you improve your Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2.
