World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is full of new secrets that players can discover and some of which they encounter quite early. One of these secrets is the “unusually large mushroom” found in Ardenweald. You can use it to obtain a secret mount. MeinMMO reveals how it works.
What kind of mushroom is this? The unusually large mushroom is an item that you will likely find fairly early during quests in Ardenweald. It has a duration of only 20 minutes and cannot be used directly.
You need it to obtain the mount “Forest Viper” through a hidden quest, a rideable frog. However, the mushroom itself looks rarer than it actually is.
Where can I find it? The unusually large mushroom drops everywhere in Ardenweald and in the associated dungeons, The Other Side and Mist of Tirna Scithe. The latter is among the three best dungeons in Shadowlands.
Every enemy there has a chance to drop this mushroom as loot. It is not particularly rare and you don’t have to explicitly farm it. If you simply complete world quests or other activities, you should find one quickly. Otherwise, you can defeat any enemies in the areas.

How to use the mushroom: Once you have acquired a mushroom, take it to the coordinates 32 / 30 in the northwest, northwest of Dreamsong Fenn. In our guide, we explain how to display coordinates.
At that location, you will find the object “Wet Clay.” Use the clay while you have the mushroom in your inventory and a “rapidly growing mushroom” will appear. This will transform into the rare enemy Ri’sig after a few seconds.
Ri’sig has a considerable amount of hit points, so it is advisable to bring friends. It is sufficient for one person to plant the mushroom. Once you have defeated Ri’sig, he will definitely have the mount “Forest Viper” with him.
What other secrets are there? In Shadowlands, there are hidden quests, NPCs, or secrets around every corner that you can discover. One new NPC has reminded MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus of his saddest moment in WoW.
As we enter the realm of the dead with the new expansion, it offers many opportunities to reunite with old acquaintances while also taking entirely new paths. However, this does not seem to please all players.
