In Destiny 2, the armors with high base totals are highly sought-after items. They determine what your Guardian has overall. Besides the distribution of individual skill attributes, the higher the base total, the better. But where can you find this strongest gear in Destiny 2 and what exactly are the highest base totals? MeinMMO will tell you.
Every week, at the Weekly Reset, a new hunt for top-tier gear begins in Destiny 2. Here, players hunt not only for power levels but also for armor pieces with the highest total values. The right distribution of individual skill attributes, such as Mobility, Resilience, or Intellect, is chosen by players depending on their class and personal playstyle. The optimal distribution of skill attributes varies for each class and is partly a personal decision.
Basically, one should know about armors: All legendary armor drops have values with a total of at least 44 and a maximum of 68 points. Exotic armor can even reach 70 as a base value.
There are also exceptions: Exotics before Shadowkeep are an exception. They can drop with a base total of 71. This is because they were brought over from the old armor system, when Bungie introduced Armor 2.0 in August 2019. Two examples of this are the Exotics “Transversive Steps” or “Aeon Souls Gauntlets”.
With the knowledge of the current maximum base values for armors, every Destiny 2 player can easily recognize and classify a good armor drop.
- All armor pieces with a base total below 60 can almost always be dismantled
- For armor drops with a base total above 65, it is worth checking the skill attributes
- The really good gear has base totals over 66
- Exotic armors can drop with the highest base totals
More is not possible in Destiny 2: With a complete set of legendary armor pieces at 68 total value (without mods, aspects, and fragments) and a 70/71 exotic in the loadout, a player in Destiny 2 has reached the maximum. More is not possible.
If the distribution of skill attributes based on personal preferences fits with these armor pieces, this is the absolute best that one understands as a high-end loadout in Destiny 2.
Top Stats Armor from Challenging Activities
Sometimes the vendors in Destiny 2 offer really good gear with a base total over 60. Therefore, it is worth visiting regularly. However, this happens rarely and is more of an exception. Most players get their high-quality armors from very specific activities. Those who play these regularly have optimal chances.
On reddit, Destiny 2 players have compiled a ranking of these activities, from which they have most frequently received legendary armor pieces or exotics with very high base totals, beyond 66.
- 1) From the current raid “The Vault of Glass”
- 2) From Nightfall strikes at Grandmaster difficulty and Pinnacle
- 3) In the dungeons “Prophecy” or “Grasp of Avarice”
- 4) In the Iron Banner (from the 4 loot chests)
- 5) From the Trials of Osiris
- 6) In rare cases, also from Prime Engrams
Skill Attributes Can Be Influenced
Now, however, players no longer need to rely solely on pure luck. The skill distribution can be slightly influenced with economy mods for your ghost. For example, acquired armor pieces have a higher probability of dropping with a minimum value of 10 on the desired skill attribute.
There is also the possibility to influence the distribution of skills, such as Recovery or Strength, through a targeted Level 3 focusing of Umbral Engrams. Particularly the armor from the Season of the Splicer always had excellent values beyond 60 and is considered a tip. Why this is not the case with the armor from the current Season 15 is known only to Bungie.
Raid Gear Has a Weekly Skill Focus
The raid at the Grandmaster difficulty level offers players the best option to acquire gear with the desired skill attributes. Each week, a different skill attribute rotates in the raid, which then guarantees players at least 20 points in the respectively focused value. This also applies to the armor from the loot chest at the end of the raid.
The Grandmaster raid, therefore, rewards players not only with the particularly sought-after time-lost weapons but also with a strong option for skill attributes on raid armor.
So, if you prioritize certain attributes on your armor, you have the greatest chances here. Of course, this activity is one of the hardest in all of Destiny 2, but it promises the most rewarding loot.
Disadvantage: The rotation of skills is random from week to week, and it is not guaranteed that the base total will also drop with the maximum value.
Are you already satisfied with the values of your armor or are you still farming? Can you perhaps even shine with a 71 exotic and a complete legendary 68 armor set? And do you think that from December 2021, players will have to re-farm and assemble their armor attributes due to the major balance abilities update?
