In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the Ice Storm challenges are now active. In these, you need to find and destroy Ice Fiends and Ice Brutes. How to take down the beasts most effectively is explained here.
What are Ice Brutes and Ice Fiends? These are the already known monsters from the Halloween event. Only this time, they emerge from ice crystal shards that have been lying around the snow-covered map since the Ice Cube event.
The monsters that aren’t zombies spawn in large numbers and attack anyone who gets close. When you defeat them, they often leave behind useful items, sometimes even of the highest quality.
How to find the monsters: The monsters spawn around ice shards. They are randomly placed on the Fortnite map.
Additionally, you need to take down the monsters dozens of times for the new Ice Storm challenges.
How to complete the Ice Storm challenges
What tasks are there? As of 21.01.2019, there are four tasks that relate to battling the monsters:
- Destroy Ice Fiends
- Destroy Ice Brutes
- Deal damage to the Ice Legion with explosive weapons
- Deal damage to the Ice Legion with assault rifles or pistols
How to solve it optimally is explained in the following paragraphs.
How to destroy Ice Fiends: Ice Fiends are the small, normal non-zombies. They are easy to kill as they have only a few hit points. Ideally, you let a bunch of them spawn and then lure them onto a pile of dynamite, a trap, or blast them with powerful weapons like the Minigun or the Heavy Assault Rifle.
This way, you can quickly accomplish the required 250 Ice Fiends.
How to destroy Ice Brutes: Ice Brutes are the big, chunky brothers of the Ice Fiends. They take much more damage and are hard to kill. So ideally use weapons with a lot of power, like shotguns, and aim for headshots.
Explosive weapons are great for damaging many of them at once. Ideally, you also take out a few smaller fiends while farming for brutes. You need to kill a total of 100 of them.
How to deal damage to the Ice Legion: The last currently available challenges revolve around the Ice Legion.
This refers to all ice monsters: that is Ice Fiends, Ice Brutes, and also the larger, glowing monsters in Fortnite.
You do not have to kill them in the previously mentioned challenges, just wound them. With explosive weapons, as well as assault rifles or pistols. Explosive weapons are not always easy to find but are absolutely great for fighting non-zombies in the game.
So let a lot of them spawn and blast away. Dynamite sticks are ideal here as they do not explode immediately and you can then let the monsters walk right onto them. A total of 5,000 damage must be dealt.
The second challenge requires you to deal damage to the monsters with pistols OR assault rifles. Assault rifles clearly have the advantage, so ideally, use those. You need to deal an impressive 10,000 damage, which can take a while.
