The developers of Infinity Ward have now revealed fresh details about the kill streak system of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. And this should delight many players. Because there is something for every playstyle. Three approaches from previous series installments are combined.
What are kill streaks anyway? Kill streaks represent a special reward in multiplayer for numerous installments of the “Call of Duty” series that can be earned by achieving multiple consecutive kills.
A certain number of kills, for example, can reward you with a helicopter, a reconnaissance drone, or white phosphorus. You can then call them in at the press of a button at an opportune moment, giving the opposing team another round of heat.
The system rewards good players and teams who achieve many kills without being taken down themselves.
These systems also exist: In addition to kill streaks, there are also other systems in the individual series installments:
- Score streaks: This system was last used in Black Ops 4. Here, special rewards are earned not (only) through kills but through points. This rewards not only players who make kills but also players who “play the objective” by completing tasks and thus earning points for their team.
- In addition, there was the so-called specialist perk system in Modern Warfare 3. This allowed players to forgo regular kill streak rewards and instead unlock additional perks for consecutive kills, granting their character extra bonuses.

What is it like in Modern Warfare? The reboot of Modern Warfare will primarily rely on the kill streaks in its multiplayer – this will be the standard system. The developers have already revealed this some time ago.

However, to cater to all types of players, there will be options for the other systems to come into play if desired. These are, however, optional. And this is how it is supposed to work.
Score streaks are also possible: As the design directors Geoff Smith and Joe Cecot from Infinity Ward stated in the new developer blog post, there will be a perk called “Point Man” in Modern Warfare.
This will allow players to change kill streaks to score streaks if they prefer this system.
The specialist perk streaks are returning: The specialist streaks from Modern Warfare 3 are also set to return in the reboot of the series. These were only briefly mentioned in the blog, so Joe Cecot elaborated on them a bit more on Twitter.
This will allow players to completely forgo kill streaks and instead utilize the specialist system (no, not the specialists from the Black Ops series).
This will be an extra option in the perk menu that can be unlocked during progress. If selected, the kill streaks will be replaced with three selected additional perks, granting the operator additional bonuses with increasing consecutive kills.
Who is this new system aimed at? This system is clearly designed to offer players as many options as possible to fit their individual playstyle. With this design, Modern Warfare aims to provide something for every type of player.
Players who prefer kills can utilize the standard kill streak system. Players who prefer achieving objectives or supporting can earn their rewards with score streaks. And operators who want to equip their character with additional bonuses can also benefit from the specialist perk streaks.
And this is likely to delight many fans. Because when Modern Warfare first announced that they were returning to the kill streak system, there were numerous discussions on Reddit and other platforms. Many were dissatisfied and found the score streak system better. However, after the latest details were revealed, every player should be happy with the new system.
