In Fortnite: Battle Royale streams a 13-year-old boy for 10 hours every day and asks for donations. However, this has a good purpose, as the child needs the money to pay for his father’s cancer treatment.
Who is the child? The young streamer is known on Twitch as Zyl. He is 13 years old, and his father has advanced-stage colon cancer.
Without chemotherapy, the man would be dead in a year; a treatment could give him another three years and has a roughly 20 percent chance of overcoming the disease.
What did the boy do? Since such a treatment is expensive, several thousand dollars were needed for medication and other expenses. Since the father can no longer work, his son tried to raise the money.
So he sat down at the computer every day and streamed Fortnite for 10 hours. His goal was to raise 5,000 Canadian dollars for the medication.
Famous Pro Helps with Breakthrough
How successful was Zyl? In the first days, Zyl had little success as a small streamer, and hardly anyone was interested in the boy’s plight. However, this changed on the 4th day.
On that day, the famous pro-gamer Col MackWood donated 25 dollars. He also talked about the situation on his own channels, and from then on, the matter went viral.
People flooded the boy’s channel and left money. The funding goal of 5,000 dollars was reached within a few hours.
This is how it continued: Since the medication and additional treatment options continue to incur costs and there are also ongoing expenses, Zyl decided to continue streaming and asking for money. This has now brought him over 20,000 dollars and over 50,000 followers on Twitch.
With the money, expensive medications, a wheelchair, a private hospital room, and an upgrade for Zyl’s computer have been paid for. In the meantime, the boy’s father also appeared and thanked for the donations and his son’s efforts.
Even Former Cheaters Support Zyl
A particularly curious incident was that the two streamers Xxif and Ronaldo offered to finance the boy’s trip to the Fortnite World Cup at their own expense.
The two streamers had caused controversies because they were disqualified due to cheating during World Cup qualification and were able to qualify again after their ban expired.
By supporting Zyl, they probably want to restore their reputation, and the community has responded well so far.
Haters Doubt the Cancer Story
Does it have any downsides? The majority of the community supports Zyl and is moved by his story. However, some people find the situation a bit suspicious.
The boy and his father live in Canada, so everyone should be insured, and no one should have to pay for cancer treatments.
Therefore, they consider the story to be fake, and Zyl and his father might only want to enrich themselves and shamelessly exploit the community’s sympathy.
Zyl himself strongly denies this. The treatment itself is indeed free, according to Zyl, but the additional medications and other treatment options are not covered by the insurance. Overall, there is a lack of money since the father can no longer go to work.
Watch live video from zylTV on www.twitch.tvOn Reddit, some users agree with this. Even in Canada, one is not in a health paradise. It depends entirely on the province one lives in and how elaborate the treatment is in the end. There can easily be several thousand dollars in additional costs for those affected.
