For several years, the developers have been working on the successor of the famous S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl – or simply: Stalker. Now the Ukrainian studio behind the game gives new insights into the development and shows with 4 new images how good the new survival game looks.
What is Stalker 2? The story of Stalker takes place in Chernobyl, several years after the reactor disaster. There was a second explosion, the entire area is now contaminated and full of dangerous mutants.
At the same time, particularly valuable “artifacts” have emerged, which various people are fighting over to get their hands on. As a “Stalker,” you risk your life to obtain these artifacts.
Stalker 2 is one of the most anticipated games on Steam and is currently ranked 7th among the most wished-for games (via Steam, as of January 19). The first part alone has an evaluation of over 94% on Steam.
In terms of gameplay, Stalker is something like a survival RPG:
- You must be careful and survive, as the entire area is contaminated and full of mutants
- Hunger, sleep, injuries, and radiation take their toll on you
- Over 30 weapons are available for you to choose from and can be customized
- You can gain reputation with different factions – or fight them
Played from a first-person perspective in a realistic environment with Unreal Engine 5. A day-night cycle is supposed to further contribute to the immersion. The game has a good chance of being included in our list of the best survival games for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation on MeinMMO.

New Images of Stalker 2 – Release is expected in 2023 despite difficult circumstances
What is new: On Twitter, the official channel of Stalker 2 has shared new images of the upcoming survival game. Different locations can be seen, as well as protective gear, various enemies, and at least 6 different weapons:
- 2 submachine guns
- a long-barreled shotgun
- a short double-barrel shotgun
- a carbine
- a tactical assault rifle
On Twitter, many fans praise the visuals of the game. The environment looks fantastic and particularly the famous, claustrophobic atmosphere comes across really well:
When will STALKER 2 be released? After several delays, Stalker 2 is expected to be released in late 2023 on PC via Steam, Epic, and Gog, as well as for Xbox – December 2023 is indicated, but likely as a placeholder. Shortly thereafter for PlayStation 5, although a date is still missing.
In a report on wired, the developers provided insight into the difficulties of development. The originally Kiev-based studio had to leave the country due to the Russian invasion and is now working from Prague.
In protest, even the name of the game was changed: from “Heart of Chernobyl” to the Ukrainian spelling: “Heart of Chornobyl.” The game can already be pre-ordered now and costs between €59.99 and €109.99, depending on the version.
