Throne and Liberty is considered by many to be the most promising MMORPG set to be released in 2023. During the Korean gaming fair G-Star, new details have now been revealed. It concerns PvE, PvP, server structures, and the global release.
What was revealed? The most significant information revolves around the game version. While Lost Ark and Blade & Soul have updates that can take months to years apart between Korea and Europe, Throne and Liberty is supposed to keep a uniform version worldwide.
There will be dedicated servers and different language options for each region, but the game version with all content and balance is intended to be identical.
There are also new details about the server structure. Each server is expected to accommodate around 3,000 to 5,000 players. This makes them slightly larger than New World, but significantly smaller than Lost Ark. Around 20,000 players can fit onto one server there.
No new gameplay was shown at the fair. Therefore, we have embedded the old trailer for you:
The game world divides into Challenges (PvE) and Competitions (PvP)
What was revealed about the game world? Throne and Liberty features an open game world where you can find PvE instances that you enter with your group. The transition is meant to be smooth and without loading screens.
The open world will, however, offer both PvE and PvP:
- PvE challenges are referred to as Challenges. This includes major world bosses that can only be defeated with multiple players.
- The Competitions in PvP revolve around capturing certain objects in the world. There are smaller objectives, but also large sieges for outposts that guilds can claim.
- The entire world is equipped with a “Memorial” system. This is intended to allow players to adapt dynamically. For example, those who run through a starting area can be dynamically downscaled, making the content more challenging but also more rewarding. This way, endgame content can also take place in the starting zones. The system loosely resembles GW2 or ESO.
In the open world, there will also be random events that affect the area. These will be displayed on the map, and there is also an outlook on events coming in the next hours.
In the presentation, a “Wolf Hunt Tournament” was shown. It displays over the players’ heads how many wolf tails they have collected. However, PvP is active, and if you are defeated, you lose exactly those wolf tails and someone else can pick them up.
However, you will not lose any items if you are killed in PvP.

Time of day and weather influence effects
What was revealed about the weather system? In the game world, it is day for 4 hours straight and night for one hour. This cycle repeats after five real hours. All players on the server always have the same time of day and the same weather.
However, there is a special bonus for the best PvP player of the respective server. That player is said to have the power to change the time of day by 10 minutes forward or backward twice a day.
The weather, on the other hand, cannot be influenced, but it directly affects your abilities:
- Strong winds make arrows fly faster and deal more damage.
- Lightning skills hit more targets in the rain.
- Rain can also block certain paths in the game, for example, because they become flooded.
The balance of weather should be about 8:2 in favor of sunshine. However, wind can occur in both rain and sunshine. Weather should also influence the strength of boss monsters in PvE.
What else was revealed? The presentation showed the Skill Grappling Hook, which allows players to overcome larger abysses or climb a vantage point faster.
Additionally, animal forms were discussed, which you can use to move faster instead of mounts or flying creatures. This is because the weather is also said to affect the animals. Good weather can increase health regeneration in animal form.
Where did the information come from? There was a presentation by NCSoft during G-Star 2022. However, it was only in Korean. We based our summary on Ruliweb, a Korean site. Additionally, there was a livestream on YouTube in which a Korean streamer translated the information live into English.
Throne and Liberty is set to be released in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
What kind of game is it? Throne and Liberty is the largest MMORPG expected to be released in 2023. It is being developed by NCSoft, the company behind Aion, Blade & Soul, and Lineage. The game focuses on action-packed combat and does away with fixed classes. Instead, you equip two weapons that determine your play style.
The release was initially scheduled for 2022; however, there were issues with a western partner for the game. Therefore, it was postponed to 2023. The release is planned for PC and the most common consoles. A mobile version is not planned at this time.
