Dark Gathering
What is it about? Keitaro Gentoga has a special gift – and a big problem. Since childhood, he has attracted ghosts, which has caused him traumatic experiences in the past. To distance himself from the supernatural world, he tries to lead a normal life and takes a part-time job as a tutor. But this job brings him back into contact with the paranormal.
His student Yayoi Hozuki is not only highly intelligent but also obsessed with tracking down ghosts – especially those related to her mother’s disappearance. Together with her friend Eiko, they combine their abilities and embark on a dangerous journey to confront ever stronger and more malevolent ghosts.
What makes the anime so special? Dark Gathering is an interesting anime that skillfully combines the supernatural and horror elements with truly likable characters. The dynamic of the three-person team is well done, as Eiko has had a connection to Keitaro since childhood. She wants to help him overcome his trauma because she secretly knows he loves the paranormal just as much as she does.
Yayoi, on the other hand, impresses with her extraordinary strength despite her young age. She cleverly catches ghosts and makes them work for her. Throughout the anime, viewers become emotionally invested in the battles and rejoice when the next ghost is captured. It even feels a bit like Pokémon.
