Bonus: Half-Demons Would Fit Perfectly into the Story
There are no hints about this yet, but what would make sense like with the imps would be a demonic origin that you can play. Because demons are likely to play a significant role in Divinity this time – depending on which ending of the predecessor is actually canon. A demonic war belongs to this.
Half-demons would not be a “race” you choose, but a mix, meaning: half demon, half human or half demon, half elf, and so on. In Divinity: Original Sin 2, you could not only choose one of four races but also play each of these races as undead with special mechanics:
- Healing causes damage to undead; poison heals them.
- If you appear in public without concealment, you will be attacked immediately.
- Since you are already practically dead, you can “play dead” and confuse opponents.
- In addition to the traits of the undead, you would also have the advantages of the race your character belonged to in life.
Half-demons would probably have similar possibilities and restrictions and have already been present: Malady, one of the main characters of the story, is a half-demon/half-elf (and by the way, voiced by Amelia Tyler, the narrator of Baldur’s Gate 3).
Even in the narrative, half-demons would fit excellently when considering how Larian has crafted the probably most intricate background in Baldur’s Gate 3 and integrated it into the story. Here, the “Dark Urge” is virtually the canon character of the story.
Among the races mentioned here, at least elves, dwarves, humans, and lizards are very likely to be playable, orcs also seem to be confirmed more or less. Whether there will be “Origins”, i.e., pre-made characters, is still unknown. However, since non-selected origins usually become companions in Larian games, there seems to be a significant focus on this: The companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 feel alive, Divinity could do it even better
