The community in Helldivers 2 has quite a few objections to some players abandoning operations after a certain point. This would play into the hands of the Automaton offensive. The developers have commented on this.
Currently, the galactic campaign is underway in Helldivers 2, where players fight against the Automatons for dominance over planets.
However, some players do not take the fight for democracy very seriously. Instead of playing an operation to the bitter end, they only complete the kill missions to farm XP, and then abandon the mission.

Does abandoning an operation affect the war? Initially, it was unclear whether such behavior harms the Helldivers in the galactic war and helps the Automatons.
On February 23, 2024, a community manager named Evil-Bosse first made a statement. He said that the concerns of “honest” players were justified and wrote:
Yes, if you abandon the operation after halfway, it counts as a loss for the Super-Earth.

However, Evil-Bosse’s statement has now been corrected by another community manager named Misty. According to him, abandoning an operation has no effect on the current state of the galactic war:
I can confirm that aborting an operation does not increase the opponent’s percentage, so people who leave operations do not have a negative impact on a planet.

His colleague Evil-Bosse simply made a mistake. “We all make mistakes,” explained Misty. Evil-Bosse also apologized on Reddit.

Can the farmers continue? In principle, yes. It seems that this way of playing Helldivers 2 does not have any impact on the galactic campaign. One can leave operations early without giving the opponent an advantage. However, it is not particularly sporting behavior.
This way, you only help yourself and not the idea of democracy and freedom that is highly valued in Helldivers 2. There are several other ways to make yourself unpopular in the game.
