The new MMORPG for League of Legends was officially announced in late 2020. Since then, there has been no gameplay, but some statements from Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, the lead producer of the game. He recently commented on group content and solo players.
What does Ghostcrawler say about solo players? On Twitter, the chief was asked about his stance on building groups in group content. Specifically, the user wanted to know whether one would complete these with random groups or rather form a guild and find players independently.
Ghostcrawler responded that you should play your MMORPG with a community and friends:
This sounds a bit vague, but our philosophy is that if you want to play a single-player game, there are some great titles out there. Horizon! GoW! Persona! Cheers to Pathfinder WotR!

Will solo players not make any progress at all? At this point in time, it’s hard to say, as we know too little about the content and the leveling process.
However, Ghostcrawler previously explained that his MMORPG focuses on dungeons and raids, and that the raids are supposed to become one of the most important factors in the game. The latest statement reinforces the suspicion that these contents will not be linked to a dungeon finder, but rather that players will have to find their own groups.
However, the chief’s statement has mostly resulted in positive reactions, as there have been several good titles for solo players in the past, including The Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2. In WoW it also became easier over time to make progress without a guild, especially due to content like the dungeon finder.

How is the MMORPG in general? Although the game was officially announced in December 2020, we still know almost nothing about the LoL MMORPG at this point.
What is certain is:
- Dungeons and raids are a focus of the game
- There will be healers and tanks, as they are said to be difficult to balance according to Ghostcrawler
- If there are different races, then without racial bonuses, but purely as cosmetic adjustments
- There will be PvP content
- The contents of the MMORPG are not supposed to please every player
That is very limited, especially considering how much this MMORPG is anticipated by many fans. Because the game from Riot Games is seen by many as a great hope, as since 2014 only New World has been released as a major MMORPG in the West.
However, it currently seems that we will have to wait a few more years for the release.
