In Among Us, a nasty hacker is currently on the loose, promoting his YouTube channel and Donald Trump. The developers promise a hotfix for it.
This is what happened: In public rounds of the indie hit Among Us, there is currently a hacker ruining the game repeatedly. Players are unable to play properly and massive advertising appears in the chat.
The hacker “Eris Loris” is behind this, who promotes his YouTube channel in the chat. He also boldly writes “Vote TRUMP 2020” and actively campaigns in the online game.
Hacker criticizes developers: “It’s not my fault”
The hack is that far-reaching: You only need to look around on YouTube. There are already numerous videos about Eris Loris and Among Us. Some of them have over 200,000 views.
Eris Loris’ YouTube account itself has almost 20,000 subscribers (via YouTube). His persistent advertising has apparently paid off to some extent.
The developers are also aware of this and are already working on a solution for this hack. Forest, one of the three developers from the studio InnerSloth, writes on Twitter: “Okay, Wave 2 of Anti-Hacks is going out: Wave 1 fixed the identity switch. As a result, the prominent hack is now just chat spam and mass despawn (black room). Wave 2 should fix both problems. We’ll see what we need to do after that.”
This is what the hacker says about it: The magazine Kotaku spoke with the hacker Eris Loris. There he explained his motives for the hack.
There he said: “I was curious about what would happen, and personally I found it funny. The anger and hate is what makes it funny.”
He then explains that he is a Trump supporter, which explains the part with the call to vote. He shows no remorse for his actions and claims: “Among Us may have a small development team, but that’s not my fault. The game is bigger than most AAA games. There is nothing stopping them from hiring more developers, so the argument ‘it’s 3 people’ means nothing to me.”
What happens next? It remains to be seen whether the developers’ hotfix has actually done anything about Eris Loris’ messages. The hacker himself claims that he can still spam the chats.
