MMOs are often played as single-player games. Major titles like World of Warcraft or The Elder Scrolls Online offer plenty of content outside of group play. What can you do alone at level 80 in ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2 in the endgame, and what is actually worth it?
The MMO player is getting older, and one consequence is a lack of time. Time-consuming games therefore become a problem, which is why the single-player option is preferred. Group content occurs spontaneously through dungeon browsers or similar tools. What can we do alone in Guild Wars 2 that still advances us or our character? We present you with some suggestions.
Suggestion 1: Explore the Map
What to do: During the regular leveling phase, we complete numerous maps; however, not all of them. Normally, only endgame content, the content of the latest patch matters. In Guild Wars 2, it is advisable to visit the older maps. The waypoints are sufficient; quests or landmarks are not particularly important.
Why it is sensible: When we have all the waypoints, we have the necessary mobility for numerous game content. Ley line anomalies or Bloodstone creatures appear repeatedly. If we want to defeat these enemies, we must be able to teleport close to them. The same applies to boss enemies like the Jungle Wurm or Tequatl, which are still contested today. It is impossible to attack them spontaneously if we are forced to walk there painstakingly first. And for the following suggestions, the waypoints are helpful, if not necessary.
Suggestion 2: Daily Quests
What to do: There are several random tasks every day. For example, complete four events in a certain area or mine ten ores in the desert. Every day there are four PvE, PvP, and WvW tasks, something for everyone.
Why it is sensible: Because it grants all kinds of rewards. Materials for ascended equipment, currencies for various vendors, gold, karma, and experience. The rewards correspond to the task. If we complete a mission regarding fractals, our reward is different than if we had a task to defeat a boss.
Suggestion 3: Level Mastery Paths
What to do: Level 80 is the maximum; further experience flows into the mastery paths. Each area like Central Tyria, Heart of Thorns, and Path of Fire has its own paths that can only be leveled there. Accordingly, we should also visit these areas and complete events.
Why it is sensible: The masteries we earn in the three zones can be used in all three areas and across the account. The glider from Maguuma is unlocked quickly and significantly increases our mobility. While Path of Fire has a flying griffon as a mount, unlocking it is much more time-consuming. Of course, you do not need to unlock all mastery paths. Review them and decide what you need from them.
Suggestion 4: Continue the Living World
What to do: The addons bring their own quest lines, and the living world regularly receives another chapter. The latter is available for free if you log in at the time of release. It is worth playing this campaign.
Why it is sensible: Not only because of the story but also its additional content. We unlock new areas with fresh content or new bosses. It is more than just a simple story. Additionally, you are rewarded with achievements that grant mastery points. These are then needed for the mastery paths.
Suggestion 5: Farm Legendary or Ascended Equipment
What to do: This is more of a long-term task. These special items require numerous materials and a lot of effort. Fortunately, by playing normally, quite a bit of farming is accomplished already. Thus, we can get this task perfectly combined with leveling the mastery paths. We primarily complete events that give us materials for the equipment in addition to experience.
Why it is sensible: According to ArenaNet, there should not be an item spiral; nevertheless, better equipment was added later. Legendary and ascended gear is equivalent to each other but superior to all other items. The weapon makes a noticeable difference, which is why one should at least farm this.
