In an interview, ArenaNet discusses the ongoing issues in Guild Wars 2 – particularly the WvW PvP.
Everything is fine, but much can be improved
The launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is likely to go down as one of the smoothest in MMORPG history. Aside from small difficulties, the implemented features work perfectly and are well received by most players. However, there are still many issues that need to be addressed in the future. Especially in WvWvW PvP, there are numerous areas for improvement. There is also still work to be done on the fine-tuning of the Fractals.
Colin Johanson from ArenaNet addressed the questions from mmorpg.com. We have filtered out the most important statements for you.
WvWvW needs a complete overhaul
Particularly the World vs. World battles will be intensely focused on in the future. The project was “too big” to complete in time for the launch of Heart of Thorns. “Fundamental issues, such as population balance, rewards, achieving victory points, and ‘night capping’ need to be addressed. As usual, we will not disclose any details until we are far enough along in our developments to show truly promising things. For now, I can only say that WvWvW is the last major system on our radar that we need to overhaul.”
Guild halls too expensive for small guilds?
Johanson was also asked if he is satisfied with the costs and effort required to obtain a guild hall. Especially small guilds, which consist of only 2-3 people, often have to invest a lot of time and gold just to enjoy a hall.
“The costs for a guild were designed for a 10-person group. Nevertheless, it is not impossible for smaller groups to unlock a guild hall. The design of the guild hall assumes that you have a guild of 4 or more players – anything below that is just a small player group, but not something we would call a guild. They can, for example, use the headquarters in Lion’s Arch.”
Finally, there is still a need for action with the Fractals – while the changes have been well received by most players, there are still issues with fine-tuning, particularly regarding balance, experience points, and rewards that can still be improved.
