If you don’t feel like uncovering the map with all the waypoints in Guild Wars 2, you can now conveniently unlock all markers of a region for real money in the shop. Most players find this silly and criticize this step by ArenaNet.
The latest expansion Path of Fire brings cool new mounts to Guild Wars 2. This allows you to explore the vastness of the old and new maps even better, unlocking the coveted waypoints along with new quests and events. Waypoints are marked locations on the map that you can teleport to at any time, as long as they are not part of an event and heavily contested.
However, with the latest offer from the Cash Shop of Guild Wars 2, you can simply unlock all waypoints for real money and skip the entire exploration – at least in the base game.
25 euros for all waypoints from the base game?
The offer in the Black Lion Shop gives you the following options:
- Unlock one region: 600 gems (7.5 euros)
- Unlock all regions of the base game: 2,000 gems (25 euros)
A region here corresponds to an area such as the grasslands of Ascalon, the Shiverpeaks, or the Valley of Kryta. In total, there are 5 regions to choose from. The areas of the expansions Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire are currently not available as purchasable waypoint packages. So you still have to make your way through the vegetation on foot, using a glider, or on a mount.
It should be noted: You can also exchange gems for “gold” in Guild Wars 2. Therefore, it is not strictly necessary to spend “real” money to acquire these gems – but gems are the premium currency of Guild Wars 2 and thus part of the monetization system, i.e., how Guild Wars 2 makes money.
Players not thrilled about real money waypoints
As expected, most players are not thrilled with this business idea. Many wonder what the joke is in throwing out 25 bucks when you can unlock all the waypoints yourself in about 2 hours with a bit of skill and a mount.
Others are even angrier and shout Pay2Win! But regardless of how drastic one sees the concept: hardly any player from Guild Wars 2 seems willing to spend money on waypoints.
