In a new trailer, Guild Wars 2 reveals the release date of the new story episode “Eternal War”. At the end, there is again a list of all the content of the new patch.
When will the episode “Eternal War” be released? The new episode is expected to be released on Tuesday, May 14. This means players had to wait about four months for a continuation of the story.
The new episode seamlessly picks up where the previous one left off. We meet our friends again at the place where we lost the dragon Aurene in the fight against Kralkatorrik.
“Eternal War” will conclude the fourth season of the Living World. However, it will not continue with an expansion, but with another season full of regular story updates.
What new features does the story episode bring? In addition to the continuation of the story, the Sky Scale is particularly the focus of the upcoming patch. This is the second flying mount in Guild Wars 2.
Additionally, the patch contains the following features:
- A new map, the name of which has not yet been revealed
- The new legendary greatsword Exordium
- A new, upgradable armor set, comparable to the Requiem armor from the third episode
This is special about the Sky Scale
With the expansion Path of Fire, mounts were introduced to the game. Each individual mount is supposed to fulfill a special task and occupy a niche. But what distinguishes the upcoming Sky Scale from the already existing griffons?
The Sky Scale as a helicopter: From the first teaser for the mount, we know that the Sky Scale is supposed to be capable of hovering in the air, similar to a helicopter. In the developer livestream on Friday, they revealed how exactly that works.
With the space bar, you can simply ascend straight up from a standstill. The height is determined by a bar above the endurance. Once this is depleted, the maximum height is reached. This bar only recharges when you have solid ground under your feet or when you repair rifts that can be found in the air.
What else can the Sky Scale do? Another special ability of the Sky Scale is clinging to rocky outcrops. From these, the mount can push off and gain minimal height.
There is also again an attack ability that lets you dismount. Afterwards, the Sky Scale breathes fire, creating a combo field that you can interact with.
Emotional trailer heralds the finale
The new trailer for “Eternal War” deviates slightly from the previous trailers. It shows no new content but focuses entirely on our group of heroes.
What’s up with our group of heroes? After Aurene’s death, there is a dark and hopeless atmosphere. The trailer clearly shows this in the gestures and facial expressions of the individual characters. With the dragon’s death, the hope of defeating the ancient dragon Kralkatorrik also died.
In the background, you can hear the words of Zafirah, reciting a text about war. Together with the oppressive music, a very emotional atmosphere is created.
What do we know about the new map? ArenaNet is unusually reticent in this trailer about the new map. The name of the map has usually been released beforehand.
There is much speculation about whether the map could possibly be located in the mists. However, the latest screenshot showing a Melandru statue suggests that the map could be located beneath the Maelstrom Summit. This would provide a spatial reference both to the previous episode and to the finale of the third season.
50% discount on Guild Wars 2: ArenaNet also uses this new patch to reduce the previous versions of Guild Wars 2 in their shop:
- You can get Path of Fire for 14.99 euros
- The Deluxe Edition of Path of Fire is available for 27.49 euros
- The Standard Collection with both expansions is available for 24.99 euros
To shorten the time until the new episode, ArenaNet has used a popular trick from the predecessor:
