During a charity stream, the developers of Guild Wars 2 announced changes to PvP and WvW. This includes the introduction of a new two-versus-two game mode and a new map for classic PvP.
What new features were presented? In ArenaNet’s 24-hour livestream for the organization Extra Life, two new PvP maps were showcased.
- The first map has been specifically created for a new two-versus-two mode.
- The second map presented features the usual three capture points and is designed for five-versus-five play.
The new features are expected to be released on November 13 as part of a larger update for PvP.
The two new PvP maps
How can you play the new PvP mode? The new two-versus-two game mode will not have an official queue. To enter the map showcased on Twitch, you will need your own arena.
You can purchase this in the PvP lobby for 200 gold. There, you can set which maps can be played. On the new map, the focus is on life-and-death combat in deathmatch mode.
However, the developers are holding back on balancing and support. Initially, no changes specific to the new arena will be made.
The new capture map: Djinns’s Dominion will be the new map in five-versus-five arena PvP. It is expected to initially be added to the unranked queue and tested there extensively.
If the players deem the map good, it could also be introduced to the ranked arenas. The large estate on the map offers many hiding spots and opportunities to evade enemy attacks. Many players are already looking forward to this.
No new information on the planned changes in WvW
In January, ArenaNet announced a major overhaul for World versus World. This overhaul is meant to replace the existing server system with alliances. Since the official announcement, fans of the game mode have been waiting in vain for new information.
This did not change with the livestream. At least there will be a small change related to rewards.

Reward rank in WvW will be retained: The reward progress in WvW will no longer be reset when you leave World versus World. So if you have a high participation rank and then switch to PvE, you will keep the rank.
Of course, you will no longer receive WvW rewards in PvE. However, if you return to the borderlands, you will pick up where you left off.
