Players in Guild Wars 2 can now dress up stylishly as a Dervish, and there is also a Scythe skin available. Unfortunately, the class is still missing. Players feel like ArenaNet is playing with their emotions.
Veterans from Guild Wars 1 surely remember the Scythe-wielding warriors introduced with the Nightfall campaign. Since Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire takes place in the same areas as Nightfall, fans wished for the Dervish class back then. ArenaNet has fulfilled the wish – at least partially.
High Nostalgia Effect
What does the outfit set cost? The Ancient Dervish outfit set is available for 700 gems. To complement it, there is the Sunny Staff for 600 gems as a skin for staves. Alternatively, ArenaNet offers a package for 1700 gems that includes additional colors, Black Lion miniatures, and a style change kit.
How does the community respond? The community likes the Dervish outfit, especially the Scythe is often praised and the nostalgia effect is high. However, there is criticism regarding the bones that are part of the outfit set. When the player moves, these stretch and look unnatural. This was handled better in the predecessor, as the bones moved independently of the clothing.
The site MassivelyOp also quotes a player who evidently finds it torturous that ArenaNet is now offering him a Dervish outfit instead of the actual class.
Guild Wars 1 – The Dervish
What is the Dervish? Dervishes are melee fighters dressed in robes who use their Scythe to fight multiple opponents at the same time. Additionally, they have enchantments that allow them to weaken their enemies and strengthen and heal themselves. This made them good hybrids in Guild Wars, able to take on different roles depending on their build.
Is the Dervish coming to Guild Wars 2? Like with the Ritualist, many players wish for the Dervish in Guild Wars 2. There has been no official announcement from ArenaNet, so it is unlikely that the class will be playable in the near future. Especially since the release of Path of Fire would have been the best possible time for the Dervish. From a lore perspective, there are also issues.
In Guild Wars 2, it is said: We prefer to bring new elite specializations than new classes.
What problems does the lore cause? Dervishes are holy warriors who have been blessed by their god. When they master their abilities, they can awaken and use powers from their god. However, this makes the Dervish heavily focused on humans. Asura, for example, believe in Eternal Alchemy and therefore cannot produce a Dervish.
