While Guild Wars 2 has just announced the continuation of the Living World, questions about a future expansion keep arising. A PR manager has now commented on this.
What did the PR manager say? Justin Fassino confirmed in an interview with PCGamesN that ArenaNet is aware of the community’s wishes regarding an expansion:
I think the important thing is that everyone in the studio knows that an expansion is desired. It’s not as if we are ruling it out.
Therefore, an add-on like Path of Fire for Guild Wars 2 is not out of the question for the future.
Why is this special? Currently, the MMORPG is focusing on the Icebrood Saga, a series of free patches with new content. It directly follows the fourth season, which peaked in May 2019.
Game Director Mike Zadorojny announced the continuation in the form of free updates back in the summer of 2018 and continues to believe that this is the right path:
We know that for the things we want to release – Quality of Life improvements, the story we want to tell – the Icebrood Saga is the best way to provide our players with free content.
While Guild Wars 2 has been well-funded with the Living World for years, mainly due to the real-money shop, the figures also show that expansions consistently provide a significant boost (Q4 2015 and Q4 2017).
Prologue of the Icebrood Saga focuses on Charr
When does the Icebrood Saga start? The prologue “Bound by Blood” is set to be released on September 17. It will take players to the new area of Grothmar Valley in the northeast of the map.
There, the Charr take center stage, wanting to celebrate and reorganize after the battles with the Elder Dragons. This also leads to conflicts with our ally Rytlock Brimstone and the leader of the Blood Legion.
