The legendary weapons (Legendarys) in Guild Wars 2 are the strongest and most interesting weapons in the game. In this guide, we at MeinMMO reveal how you can obtain all three generations of Legendarys.
What are legendary weapons? The legendary weapons have the best stats in the game, along with the ascended weapons. However, they have two additional special features:
- On one hand, each weapon has a unique skin with its own footprints
- On the other hand, you can change the stats and sigils on the weapon at any time according to your wishes
How do you obtain legendary weapons? This varies greatly. Each weapon type has a legendary weapon in the base game for which you can either level crafting or pay a lot of gold in the trading post. The greatsword got a total of 4 skins.
Additionally, each legendary weapon has a skin tied to a special achievement that was introduced with the Heart of Thorns expansion.
In this guide, we present both options for obtaining legendary weapons, including those from the latest expansion End of Dragons.
The 21 legendary weapons of the first generation – The Base Game
Which legendary weapons are there in Generation 1? In the first generation, there are these 21 Legendarys:
- Lightning – Sword
- The Predator – Rifle
- The Beer Council – Mace
- The Bifröst – Staff
- The Minnesinger – Focus
- The Moloch – Hammer
- The Dreamer – Shortbow
- The Flame Seeker’s Prophecy – Focus
- Darkness – Greatsword
- Sunrise – Greatsword
- Infinity – Greatsword (Created from Darkness + Sunrise)
- Forestfang – Axe
- Howler – Warhorn
- Kamohoali’i Kotaki – Spear
- Blaster – Pistol
- Kraitkin – Trident
- Kudzu – Longbow
- Meteorlogikus – Scepter
- Rage – Harpoon Gun
- Rodgort – Torch
- Incinerator – Dagger
You can either craft these or buy them directly for gold from the trading post.
This is always the same in crafting the legendary weapons of Generation 1
In principle, you need the following four items for each legendary weapon:
- The Precursor – a specific named exotic weapon
- A gift of the weapon, whose materials always depend on the profession of the weapon (more on this with each weapon).
- The corresponding professions of the weapons at level 400 (e.g. Hunter and Leatherworker for the bow)
- The Gift of Mastery
- The Gift of Destiny
You place these four items in the Mystic Forge, which you can find in Lion’s Arch, for example. After that, you will receive the legendary weapon there.
How do I get the Precursor? You can get the Precursor from random drops from enemies, by combining 4 rare or exotic weapons in the Mystic Forge (purely by chance) and in the trading post for gold.
Since Heart of Thorns, there is also a special achievement through which you can obtain each Precursor once. However, often crafting it at the end of the achievement is more expensive than buying it directly from the trading post. So, the quests are only worthwhile for people who really want it and enjoy chasing achievements.
What is the Gift of Mastery and how do I get it? You craft the Gift of Mastery in the Mystic Forge by combining the following four items:
- 250 Obsidian Shards. You can get them at the following places:
- For 2,100 Karma at Taktikerin Todesschreiter at the Balthazar Temple (the temple must be conquered)
- From traders of Living World Season 3 or 4 for the currencies Unleashed Magic or Fleeting Magic
- From bandit chests in the Silverwastes
- In the guild hall for guild commendations
- For 15 fractal relics and 24 silver in the Fractal lobby
- 1 Bloodstone Shard
- You get it for 200 Spirit Shards from Miyani, the NPC at the Mystic Forge
- 1 Gift of Exploration
- Explore the entire old world of Tyria (base game) once
- 1x Gift of Battle
- Through the corresponding reward path in WvW.
What is the Gift of Destiny and how do I get it? You craft the Gift of Destiny in the Mystic Forge by merging the following 4 items:
- 250 Ectoplasmic Balls
- 77 Mystic Clover
- 1 Gift of Power, consisting of:
- 250 Terrible Fang
- 250 Armored Scales
- 250 Ancient Bones
- 250 Terrible Claws
- Gift of Magic, consisting of:
- 250 Vials of Powerful Blood
- 250 Piles of Crystalline Dust
- 250 Elaborate Totems
- 250 Powerful Poison Bags
The most annoying part about this gift is the 77 Mystic Clover. You need a lot of money and luck. This is because the clover is bound to you and cannot be traded. You can only obtain it in large quantities through the Mystic Forge by placing the following 4 items in it:
- 1x Obsidian Shard
- 1x Mystic Coin
- 1x Ectoplasmic Ball
- 6x Stone of Wisdom, which you can buy for spirit shards from Miyani at the Mystic Forge
However, you always have only a 33% chance for Clover. In the other 67% of cases, you usually just get materials back. Among other things, you also get the 250 T6 materials that you need anyway. So make sure to get the Clover first.
The 250 T6 materials in the form of Blood, Bones, etc. can be obtained most easily through Laurel or alternatively in the trading post. The Ectoplasmic Balls are also quite cheap in the trading post or alternatively for recycling yellow and exotic gear.
The Icy Rune Stones: For each legendary weapon, there is a special gift that you need to craft. But this gift always includes 100 Icy Rune Stones. You can obtain the Rune Stones in the area of Icecliff Summit, north of Hoelbrak. They cost 1 gold per piece.
Lightning – Sword

- 10 Stones of Wisdom
You combine the four items in the Mystic Forge to then obtain Infinity.
