In GTA Online you can place a bounty on other players. If you’re unlucky, other players or strangers will put a bounty on you. We will show you how to place one and how to get rid of it.
What is a bounty? Bounties in GTA Online can be placed on all players who are not in Passive Mode. Various rewards can be set for the death of another player, which the killer then earns.

Placing a bounty in GTA Online
This is what you need to do: First, you need to be in a lobby of GTA Online that has other players. You cannot place bounties on NPCs, only on other players.
- Open your smartphone in the game.
- Navigate to your contacts.
- The list is sorted alphabetically and shows players first, then NPC contacts.
- Navigate to Lester and select the option “Place bounty”.
- Then select the player from the list who is to receive the bounty.
- Now choose the amount of the bounty – This can be an amount between $2,000 and $10,000. Lester keeps a fee of $1,000.
- The bounty will now remain on the selected player for a full day in GTA Online (approximately 48 minutes in real life).
- On the map, the player is highlighted by a symbol, making them attractive to other players in the lobby.
You need to keep in mind: Any player in the lobby can claim the bounty of the player. If you want to redeem a bounty placed by another player, you must kill them before anyone else does. If you acquire a bounty that you placed yourself, you incur a fee of $1,000 (the fee you pay to Lester for the bounty).
Players in Passive Mode in a public lobby cannot receive a bounty from other players.
If you steal enough cars from NPCs, you will receive a bounty from “Unknown” – this is assigned to you by the game itself and no other player.
Earn bounty rewards
How does that work? If you want to claim the bounty of another player, you just need to take them out. You can run them over with a car, shoot them, or kill them in any other way. The key is to be the killer. Then the money will be paid out to you directly.
It is important: A bounty can only be claimed by one player. Keep in mind that players with a bounty are alerted and know that the lobby is hunting them. So expect them to defend themselves.

How to get rid of your bounty?
This is what you need to do: To get rid of a bounty, you must stay alive for 24 in-game hours (about 48 minutes). You cannot wait in jobs or safe houses until the time is up, as the timer will be paused in these cases. When you are back outside, the timer continues to run.
If you manage to stay alive for that long outside, you will receive the bounty yourself. The first time you survive a bounty, you will achieve an accomplishment.
