Another year has gone by. We send you warm greetings from the editorial team and reflect on 2020 together. You can look forward to many Christmas articles from us this year as well.
What happened in 2020: There is much to say about 2020, but it was definitely not uneventful and boring. Due to the corona pandemic, social contacts had to be reduced, which in turn caused a lot of turmoil in the gaming industry. There were delays of games, as well as postponements of updates and cancellations of major events such as E3.
On a personal level, for many people in the community and development, 2020 was certainly very exhausting and not without worries.
For us in the MeinMMO editorial team, the effects of corona were not as strongly noticeable as for many others. Most of my colleagues at MeinMMO and I have always worked from home, so not much changed for us. Leya and Dawid, on the other hand, returned from the Munich office to home office.
It was also very exciting to observe how the gaming industry and especially the gamers themselves adapted to the situation. Because although there were setbacks and delays, there was also significant growth.
And aside from corona, there were cool announcements and events. After all, at the end of 2020, a new console generation was released with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, which sold like hotcakes.
There was a lot going on at MeinMMO in 2020
But there was also a lot happening in our editorial team. While we watched many exciting games get pushed to autumn in spring, several major projects were gearing up in summer.
In 2020, MeinMMO had a lot of new developments:
- With “Find your next Game” and the digital gamescom 2020, we brought the fair feeling to your home together with our colleagues from GameStar and GamePro.
- In October, we finally launched our own MeinMMO podcast. You can listen to the latest episode reflecting on 2020 here.
- Our comment system received several updates to be more user-friendly.
- At the end of 2020, we witnessed the spectacular launch of the new consoles, which even brought the MeinMMO server to its knees and set a new comment record.
But the MeinMMO community was always there. You actively commented on the events and engaged in hot discussions, hung out with us on Discord, and provided us with valuable feedback.
Calm on the employee front, but new games on the horizon
Despite the turbulent times, the MeinMMO team experienced very few changes in 2020. After we brought in a whole bunch of new authors at the end of 2019 with Eilyn, Benedikt, Maik, Phil, and Larissa, they remained with us throughout 2020.
However, there was still one change: Florian Franck is now a new freelance author in the MeinMMO team and has mostly provided you with articles about Fallout 76 until now. In 2021, he will really get going, and his name will certainly appear more frequently on the site in the future.
In terms of games, we gained CoD Warzone at the beginning of 2020 and Cold War at the end of 2020. The battle royale CoD quickly gained great popularity and became one of the biggest games at MeinMMO.
There was also fresh wind in the MMORPGs, albeit only in the form of new addons. ESO delighted us with the Skyrim expansion Greymoor and in WoW the players finally ventured into the Shadowlands at the end of 2020.
Of course, there were also multiplayer games that completely flopped. I’m especially looking at you, Warcraft 3: Reforged and Crucible. But other shooters like Disintegration, Hyper Scape, or Bleeding Edge also failed to convince players.
But nonetheless, we at MeinMMO look positively towards the new year. We are looking forward to (hopefully) great MMORPGs like New World or Lost Ark.
This is what to expect on MeinMMO in the future
This is what’s coming to MeinMMO: We won’t leave you completely alone at Christmas. There will still be activity on our site, and new articles on the most important news and events will be published.
Our authors and editors have prepared a large number of specials and special articles that will be published around the turn of the year. So keep your eyes peeled! There will be analyses, tips for Christmas, and funny stories.
After the holidays in 2021, we will of course continue with new information about MMO and multiplayer games. The release list for next year gives hope that we can expect major new MMORPGs, which would certainly please many of you.
- We will accompany the major MMORPGs like New World or Crimson Desert
- For the shooters, Outriders is already in the works for early 2021 and later the big Halo: Infinite
- Funny and quirky news from the gaming community will continue to appear
You can also count on new podcasts about all topics related to online gaming and the gaming community starting in 2021.
Of course, we also have some surprises for you, some of which are already being worked on. But I won’t reveal anything about that here. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be surprises.
The entire MeinMMO team wishes you, our readers, a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year 2021, despite everything. Have a great time, stay healthy, and may 2021 bring us new cool online games.
Feel free to let us know in the comments how your 2020 was. What were the highlights? What went wrong? Spill it out!
