His work as an editor
Even before A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin published projects as an author. His first novel was the sci-fi story Dying of the Light in 1977. His first short story, The Hero, was even published 6 years earlier.
Since 1987, he has been working as an editor together with Melinda M. Snodgrass on the Wild Cards
series. This is a sci-fi superhero world that consists of several novels. For the series, not just one author writes but now over 40.
The world is based on a tabletop role-playing game, for which Martin was the game master. Thus, parts of the characters and the world come from his pen (source: The Hollywood Reporter). Since 1987, 33 novels have been published in the universe, most of which have no German translation. The last part of the series will only be available in 2025.
Aside from that, he also worked as an editor for anthologies (short stories and novellas) such as Old Venus (2015) or Dangerous Women (2013).
