In Genshin Impact, some players are struggling with the current final boss. The developers show leniency and are bringing a nerf to make the quest easier.
For almost a week now, you can complete the story around the area of Liyue in Genshin Impact. After all, the big Patch 1.1 went live. Just as in the first area Mondstadt, the story concludes with an epic boss fight that demands a lot from you. For some players, the hurdle was perhaps too high, which is why the developer miHoYo is now introducing a nerf.
Spoiler Warning: If you haven’t played the story yet and don’t want to know anything about the boss fight, you should not continue reading. You have been warned.
Tartaglia was just too hard
What is it about? The talk is about the boss Childe (“The Count”), who is also known as Tartaglia. As an important leader of the Fatui, he initially helped you, only to then betray you. A boss fight ensues, which spans three phases and must be completed during the Archon quest “Heart of Sugar”. If you fail at this fight, you cannot continue the story.
This very boss fight is now being nerfed.

The weakening of Tartaglia comes with the maintenance on November 19 – this usually takes place at 4:00 AM.
What makes the boss fight so difficult? The fight against the Count is particularly difficult because he has three health bars that all need to be emptied in order to emerge victorious from the battle. Every time a bar is empty, Tartaglia switches to a new phase and gains new abilities.
While the boss has fewer health points in the individual phases compared to Stormterror, he has many more and stronger abilities. Many of his combos are deadly for weaker characters.
In addition, there are several one-hit abilities, such as the giant whale or the spear that falls from above, which deals so much damage that only defensive characters can survive.
What could change? Although the details are still unknown, it can be assumed that Tartaglia will deal less damage after the nerf and possibly will not use his “one-hit” abilities as often. Just that alone should be enough to defeat the Count.
Will Tartaglia be easier in the weekly mode as well? Apparently not. The announcement only mentions weakening the Count during the Archon quest. After that, the Count can be defeated weekly for loot. This weekly mode will presumably still showcase his full strength and is likely to be quite challenging.
Author’s Opinion: The Right Decision
I think the developers’ decision to weaken Tartaglia in the story mode is good. It is frustrating when you cannot experience the actually beautiful story of Genshin Impact because a boss in story mode is too powerful.
Similarly, I think it is great that Tartaglia will retain his full strength in the weekly mode. The fight is significantly different from Stormterror and demands a lot from players for the first time. Only those who dodge well and optimally utilize the small windows of time to deal significant damage will emerge victorious from the fight.
In no other fight so far has switching characters, buff food, and skillful dodging been so important. I hope that Genshin Impact will have even more of these fights, as they greatly enrich the game – especially because they are a bit tougher.
If you want to defeat Tartaglia at full strength, you should do so during today’s evening.
Or how do you see it? Did you defeat Tartaglia on your first attempt? Or are you struggling with the boss fight and its three phases? Tell us in the comments how you found the boss and the resolution of the story of Liyue.
