Players of Genshin Impact can soon look forward to an addition to the characters. At the end of the year, Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn will enter the game. We summarize what is known about the new Cryo archer and how you can obtain her.
What is it about? On Twitter, Genshin Impact announced its first-ever collaboration, and with none other than Sony. Through an event at the end of the year, you will be able to obtain the new Cryo archer, Aloy. She is a 5-star character and the main character of the single-player hits Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West.
Since this is a collaboration with PlayStation manufacturer Sony, it is not surprising that PlayStation players will get to play with Aloy first. PC and mobile players will have to wait a little longer, but you will also get the archer.
Here is the announcement directly on Twitter:
What can Aloy do? Nothing is known about Aloy’s abilities yet. However, it is confirmed that she will be a 5-star character. She has the Cryo element and is referred to as “The Savior from Another World”. As a weapon, she will rely on her bow, as known from Horizon.
She shares her backstory in both games as well. She was once an outcast who had to fight her way through a dangerous world. She is always keen to save lives and stand up for the weak and other outcasts.
In search of new adventures, she travels to the world of Teyvat and looks forward to the new challenges. She is ready for the hunt and to protect the helpless.
How and when will you get Aloy? The Nora archer Aloy will find her way into the game with update 2.2. The event in her favor starts on October 13. When you log into the game then, you will receive the character as a gift via in-game mail. But be careful: This initially only applies to PS4 and PS5 players.
PC and mobile players will have to wait until the start of update 2.3 on November 24, but then you will also receive Aloy as a gift via in-game mail when you log in.
The community reacts divided
What do the players say? After the announcement on Twitter, a part of the players is strongly negative about the update. Many users seem to be disturbed in their immersion by the cross-over of both games. Others are bothered by the renewed exclusivity for the Sony console.
- The user Aerthian7 writes (via Twitter): “I’m sorry, but in my view, you have destroyed the game with this cross-over. I know it’s a free 5-star character and all, but it’s not original. I don’t want anything that doesn’t fit originally into the game, and I already don’t like Aloy in Horizon.”
- Also, the user Lug0o is bothered by the announcement: “I really hope this is a bad joke. As someone said before, it breaks my immersion. I love the Genshin universe, but having Aloy among the other characters will feel completely wrong.”
What do the positive voices say? There are of course not only negative statements; many are looking forward to being able to play their favorite character from the Sony games in Genshin Impact as well.
- The user its_menieb writes (via Twitter): “Genshin Impact is finally worth playing now that they have added one of the greatest characters from the PlayStation universe.”
- The user bak0i joins on Twitter and says: “I never thought Genshin would cooperate with Horizon. I can’t wait to see how she plays.”
